Denmark’s top player had to fight back from a set down to book his place in the last four in California.

Top Danish tennis player Holger Rune beat Tallon Griekspoor in emphatic fashion at the Indian Wells Open on Thursday to make the semi-finals of the ATP Masters 1000 event.

Coming into the match, Rune was a -200 favourite across tennis bookmakers despite failing to beat Griekspoor in either of their first two meetings.

Live tennis betting odds swung towards the Dutchman after he won the opening set with a break in the penultimate game.

However, Rune responded in style, producing the kind of tennis that got him to No.4 in the world in 2023.

The 21-year-old went on to win 10 of the next 11 games, winning all but six points in the second set before going on to close out the match 5-7, 6-0, 6-3.

When asked after the two-hour, eight-minute clash what he was most proud of, the Dane praised his ability to problem-solve on court.

“Finding solutions — finding ways to win,” he said.

“My discipline on and off the court has been very good — taking care of myself and taking care of my body, doing everything I can to perform every match I play.

“I have a better understanding that, okay, every day you don’t feel the same.

“So I have to dig deep sometimes to find a way to win.”

Rune remains on the third line of betting to win his second ATP Masters title, behind defending champion Carlos Alcaraz and the man he beat in the final, Daniil Medvedev.

He comes up against Medvedev in the semi-finals, where top sports betting sites put him as a slight underdog to claim his second victory over the Russian in four attempts.

Medvedev booked his place in the last four by beating Arthur Fils 6-4, 2-6, 7-6(7) on Thursday.
