Sadio Mane scoring odds & tips – Liverpool vs. Tottenham – EPL betting

Liverpool v Spurs

Liverpool will be looking to streak away from Manchester City by getting a huge result when they face Tottenham Hotspur this weekend in the English Premier League.

The Sunday afternoon brawl will take place at Anfield; with the hosts hoping to extend their lead at the top of the table, albeit with an extra match played.

Seeing that Manchester City are still actively competing on all three fronts, Jurgen Klopp’s charges took full advantage of the champions’ absence from Premier League action in their last encounter before the international break; beating Fulham 2-1 to leapfrog the Citizens who were playing an FA Cup match during the same weekend.

With Fulham offering little threat going forward, it was only a matter of time before the visitors embed themselves in the match. This came in the 26th minute through the in-form Sadio Mane. Gracefully galloping into the box from left flank, the 26-year old found Roberto Firmino with a stellar pass before firing the leather into the back of the net after the Brazilian forward cut the ball back to him from the byline.

Passengers for most of the encounter due to their limited options, Fulham surprisingly threw a spanner into the works when they found the equalizer in the 74th minute through Ryan Babel. A miscued kick by James Milner, which was awkwardly directed towards his own goal, caused a major mix up between Virgil van Dijk and his goalkeeper Alisson; allowing Babel to poach onto van Dijk’s poor header to his goalkeeper for the easy equalizer.

Any outcome other than a win, more so against a side deep in the drop zone, would heavily dent Liverpool’s credentials for the title, which is why it was imperative for Jurgen Klopp’s side to hedge an immediate response.

The Reds as such found a second wind that quelled Fulham’s insurrection late in the second half. Having impeccably controlled a cross from Milner, Mohamed Salah tested the hands of Sergio Rico will a well taken left footed shot. Unable to hold onto the ball due to the sting on the shot, the Fulham goalkeeper fouled Mane in a futile effort to recover the ball; forcing the referee to point to the spot with nine minutes to stoppage time.

James Milner made no mistakes about it, as the unflustered veteran converted from 12 yards to hand Liverpool a vital three points.

The victory in Craven Cottage bought them some room, as the Reds moved two points clear of Manchester City who are second on the log with 74 points and a game in hand.

Signs of Tottenham’s regression in recent weeks were in full exhibition during their surprise 2-1 defeat away to Southampton in their last piece of action before March’s edition of the international break.

The visitors looked poised for a routine victory at Saint Mary’s when Harry Kane put them ahead in the 26th minute with a simple right footed finish for what was his 200th career goal, but a bloated second half performance saw Mauricio Pochettino’s side implode under pressure.

A defensive howler by Danny Rose allowed Southampton to get back into the contest through a Yan Valery goal in the 76th minute, but the Saints impressively secured maximum points through James Ward-Prowse’s sublime free kick from 25 yards, five minutes later.

Although Spurs still retained their place in third, their gap with fourth placed Arsenal was trimmed to a paltry point after the Gunners’ emphatic win over Manchester United.

Sadio Mane has been Liverpool’s most consistent attacking player over the last two months. The strike against the Cottagers was his eleventh goals in as many games across the board; taking his season tally to 20 goals in all competitions.

The forward was similarly in brilliant form during the international break, as he found the back on the net during Senegal’s 2-1 win over Mali on Tuesday.

The fact that the 26-year old is the Premier League’s joint top scorer of 2019, level of 9 goals with Sergio Aguero, strongly positions him to find the back of the net against Spurs.

Liverpool vs. Tottenham match result tips

Although it can be argued that Spurs were, in the most subtle of ways, affected by Pochettino’s absence from the touchline as he served part of his two-match ban, the visitors were heavily faulted for lack of effort and character after the break.

The same however can’t be said about the Reds who burst into life deep in the second half; extending their record of scoring more goals in the final 15 minutes than any other Premier League side this season.
