Saints vs. Vikings NFL Sunday line odds & teaser betting tips
Betting Line: PICK
Over/Under: 52 points at 888 Sportsbook
Two first placed teams in their respective divisions, New Orleans and Minnesota, will put on a barnburner that gives punters many betting options for this NFC matchup on Sunday night.
After losing their first game of the season the Saints have reeled off five straight wins. They are atop the NFC South, but only one game up on the Carolina Panthers. The ageless Drew Brees guides New Orleans and their offense, which ranks sixth in the league in passing yards per game and second in points per game.
After a slow start where the defense was torched the Vikings have won three in a row. Their defense nearly got them to the Super Bowl last season and after struggling in the beginning they have only given up an average of 18 points in their last three games. Kirk Cousins has played well in his first season under center for Minnesota, but the run game has not been there only ranking 27th in the league in rushing yards per game.
These teams met in the playoffs last season at Minnesota where the Vikings beat the Saints 29-24.
This season the Saints are 4-2 ATS and they have an Over/Under record of 3-3 with the Vikings at 4-2-1 ATS with an Over/Under record of 4-3.
The Saints have covered the spread in four of their last five games against the Vikings.
In their last game the Saints beat the Baltimore Ravens 24-23 where they got a little lucky with the Ravens; kicker missing a point after that would have sent the game to overtime. However, what wasn’t luck was Brees’ play in the fourth quarter, as the Saints outscored Baltimore 17-6. Overall he passed for 212 yards with two touchdowns and he was not picked off. Alvin Kamara rushed for 64 yards, but only averaged 3.8 yards per carry.
Minnesota ranks 16th in the NFL in pass defense and fifth in run defense. Their defense has played well in the last three games and in their last game facing the New York Jets they held them to 263 yards and they forced three turnovers.
The Vikings beat the Jets 37-17 in their last game where they exploded in the second half outscoring New York 27-10. Cousins was 25/40 for 241 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions and he has a good wide receiver corps led by Adam Thielen, who had 110 receiving yards in the Jets game. Latavius Murray rushed for 69 yards and if the Vikings can help Cousins out by running the ball they will be tough to beat at home. Second year back Dalvin Cook has struggled to come back from an injury suffered last season and he is questionable for this game.
The Saints have a Jekyll and Hyde defense ranking first in the league defending the run and 28th defending the pass. Because of this the New Orleans pass rush will be key=, as they cannot give Cousins time in the pocket.
