While the San Antonio Spurs are off to a solid start with three straight wins, they have failed to cover the NBA betting spread in all of them. This is their first road game of the season. They have been balanced on offense and defense so far, ranking sixth in ppg and 10th in points allowed per game.
After winning their first two games the LA Clippers have lost two of their last three games. In their last game they were beaten badly without Kawhi Leonard, who was rested and will return to face the Spurs. Leonard is averaging 27 ppg for his new team and leads an offense that is the third-highest scoring team in the NBA.
Last season these two teams split the four games facing each other. The Spurs have covered the spread in five of their last seven games against the Clippers.
San Antonio’s last game was their first against a team from last season’s NBA Playoffs. Despite a sloppy performance that included 18 turnovers, the Spurs played solid defense against the Portland Trail Blazers and held them to a FG% of 39% in a 113-110 win. It is key that the Spurs are careful with the rock in this game against a tough defensive team in the Clippers.

DeMar DeRozan led the Spurs with 27 points on 10/16 shooting in the win over the Blazers and Derrick White was big coming off the bench with 21 points. His production was needed as LaMarcus Aldridge (21.3 ppg) had his worst game of the young season, only scoring 15 points on 35.3% shooting.
Without Leonard in the lineup the Clippers lost to the Utah Jazz 110-96. LA are still without Paul George as well and in the loss to the Jazz they had 20 turnovers and allowed Utah to shoot 55% from the floor.
Sixth man Lou Williams was in the starting lineup in the Utah game with Leonard out and scored 24 points and JaMychal Green was the only other Clippers player to go for over 10 points with 23 off the bench.
While Leonard is putting up the points, he has only shot over 40% from the floor in one of four games. Leonard, Williams, and Montrezl Harrell are all averaging over 20 ppg and the Spurs’ defense has its work cut out in this game.
Harrell leads the Clippers with 6.8 rebounds per game and has shot a scorching 76.2% from the floor in the first five games. His defense is also key, but he will need some help in the paint defending Aldridge.
Los Angeles Clippers -5 at -111.11 with Nags.bet
The Spurs have won all three of their games, but this is their first on the road and La La Land will not greet them well. Leonard will have a solid game coming off a rest and the Clippers will play well on both sides of the floor. They will take it to the Spurs early and Leonard will lead them to a win, and they will also cover the spread.
