Napoli visits Lazio this Sunday in a meeting between two of the top six teams on the Serie A table. We’ve got a pick in that matchup as well as plays in Saturday’s Empoli vs Juventus and Sunday’s Hellas Verona vs Venezia matches in our Serie A soccer betting picks for Matchweek 27.

Empoli vs Juventus

Juventus (13-8-5) hasn’t lost a match since November 27, compiling a 7-5-0 record over that stretch that includes a pair of back-to-back 1-1 draws against Atalanta and Torino over its last two matches. Empoli (8-7-1) hasn’t won a match since completing a 3-1-0 run back on December 12, recording a 0-5-4 record over its last nine matches. Empoli is 0-1-3 over its last four games played at home.

With these recent trends in mind, it’s no surprise to see Juventus going off as a -150 favorite on the road. We like Juventus’s chances to win, but this price is a bit steep given how unsurprising a low-scoring draw would be. So we’ll be taking the UNDER 2.5 goals in this matchup instead. Some 14 of Juventus’s last 15 games have produced two goals or fewer, and these two teams played to a 1-0 Empoli win back in August. Look for a 1-0, 2-0, or 1-1 result in this one.

Hellas Verona vs Venezia

Hellas Verona (10-7-9) is 3-1-1 over its last five matches with at least two goals scored in four of those five games. Venezia (5-7-13) has climbed out of the relegation zone with a 1-1-0 record over its last two games after compiling a 0-3-7 record over its previous 10 games. Included in that 10-game winless streak was a 4-3 loss at home to Verona.

Verona will very likely win this match, but the three-way line price of -185 and the spread of -1 (-111) are both not particularly appetizing. Once again, we turn to the total for value, with the OVER 2.75 goals looking like a strong play in this one. There have been at least three goals scored in six of Hellas Verona’s last seven games, and this offense should tee off on Venezia’s weak defense at home. Whether the total crawls over with a modest 2-1 Verona win or another shootout breaks out like last time, the final score should land over the posted total.

Lazio vs Napoli

Napoli (16-6-4) played to its second straight 1-1 draw on Monday on the road against Cagliari and is now 4-3-0 over its last seven matches. Lazio (12-7-7) also played to a 1-1 draw on the road against Udinese, breaking a streak of four straight matches without having surrendered a goal. The club is 5-3-1 over its last eight matches with the only loss over that stretch coming on the road against Inter Milan.

This is a tough one to call. Both of these clubs have been playing well lately, but they’ve been collecting their wins against clearly inferior opponents. The last match between these two clubs resulted in a 4-0 blowout win for Napoli, but we’re expecting a much more competitive matchup this time around. All three of the potential outcomes seem to be very realistic for this match, so this seems like a good spot to take a shot on predicting this one ends in a draw.
