Sweden vs. Switzerland correct score betting – World Cup odds & tips
Sweden and Switzerland will battle it out on Tuesday afternoon at St Petersburg Stadium, with a place in a FIFA World Cup quarter final on the line.
Bovada has Switzerland as the slight betting favorite in this Round of 16 match at +165 with Sweden at +205 and a draw at +195. The Over/Under for this game is set at 2.5 goals.
It was no surprise that Switzerland finished second in their group to Brazil, but it was a surprise how Sweden ended up in the knockout stage. They won their group even though they lost to Germany with wins over South Korea and Mexico.
This is the 14th all-time meetings between these teams with each winning five times and three matches ending in a draw. Sweden and Switzerland last met in a friendly in 2002 and they have never met in a major tournament such as the World Cup or European Championships.

Both teams are defensive minded and do not have very strong attacks. The Swedes only conceded two goals in three group matches giving up both in the 2-1 loss to Germany. The Swiss gave up two goals in their last match, which was a 2-2 draw against Costa Rica, but gave up both goals in the 2nd half and they already had advanced to the round of 16 with Brazil beating Serbia earlier in the day.
Sweden vice-captain Sebastian Larsson is a little banged up and Gustav Svensson may take his place in the 4-4-2 formation. Andreas Granqvist scored two goals in group play to lead the Swedes and he is a fullback. Marcus Berg and Ola Toivonen are the two attackers up front, but most of the scoring chances have come from the midfield and the counter-attack.
Switzerland has some squad issues, as Captain Stephan Lichtsteiner and Fabian Schar are both suspended for this match and Steven Zuber has been ill and is a question mark. His loss may hur the most, as he has played well in Russia.
The Swiss are led by the MF duo of Xherdan Shaqiri and Granit Xhaka, who each have a goal apiece in the tournament. With this duo, the Swiss have the slight advantage in the midfield and that could be very important with the defensive style of both teams. Shakiri has a yellow card and he may not be as aggressive in this match, as if he earns another he will miss the next match if Switzerland advances.
Seb Larsson is suspended for Sweden and will not play in this match.
The Swiss played to an impressive draw against Brazil in their World Cup opener and if they play like they did in that match against Sweden they will be in good shape.
The winner of this match faces the winner of the Columbia vs. England match in the quarterfinals.
Sweden vs. Switzerland betting predictions
I mentioned it before, but the stronger midfield of the Swiss squad will be the difference maker in this match. Switzerland will control that part of the pitch and also play solid defense. Sweden will also play a good defensive match, but they will not score and the Swiss will win 1-0 and head to the quarterfinals.
