Swedish gambling regulator Spelinspektionen gets additional funds

Sweden gambling news

In a move to grant additional powers to Spelinspektionen, Sweden’s gambling regulator, the Swedish government has recently announced a funding increase for the authority.

The increased funding is part of a broader proposal to expand efforts to crack down on unlicensed operators in the country’s gambling industry.

The additional fund totalling SEK2.4 million (£185,000) was secured as part of the amendment to the spring 2023 budget that will be finalized this April.

Welcoming the development, Camilla Rosenberg, director general of the Spelinspektionen, said the funds would expand personnel resources, increase information gathering activities and help increase its scope of supervisory network.

She said, “We welcome these extra funds which enable further strengthened measures in the fight against unlicensed gambling, money laundering and match-fixing.”

Other parts of the proposal included the one that would make it easier for the Spelinspektionen to block financial transactions to and from unlicensed gambling operators.
