The American Express PGA Tour betting preview

A somewhat lean field leaves a few standout options in the outright betting for The American Express, which kicks off this Thursday at PGA West in La Quinta, California.

None of the world’s top 14 players will tee it up on the Stadium Course this week, leaving Tony Finau (+2200) as the highest-ranked entrant. His chief rival is world no.22 Rickie Fowler, who heads the betting at +1100.

The top dogs may be sitting this one out, but there are plenty of familiar faces in the field. Im Sung-jae holds the second line of American Express betting at +1600, while Paul Casey is one spot back at +2200 alongside Finau.

Other notables in the market include Phil Mickelson and Francesco Molinari at +3300, Abraham Ancer at +4000, Zach Johnson at +6600 and defending champion Adam Long at +10000.

Not among the runners this week is Cameron Smith, who is enjoying a well-earned spell after claiming his first solo PGA Tour victory at the Sony Open in Hawaii.

The American Express betting predictions

Charles Howell III to finish top 20 – +180 at Nags.bet
This guy just keeps making cuts and filling his pockets. Howell finished tied-12th last week in Honolulu to extend an impressive run in the money. There is absolutely no reason that form should vanish this weekend.

Paul Casey top European player – +225 at Nags.bet
With many of Europe’s top guns (and several of America’s) over in the UAE for the Abu Dhabi Championship, Casey is one of the standout internationals at PGA West. The Englishman’s rock-solid ballstriking will ensure he sees plenty of birdie putts.

Im Sung-jae to finish top five – +333 at Nags.bet
The reigning Rookie of the Year looks poised for a big year. Im starred at the Presidents Cup and looked solid at Kapalua two weeks ago, so that maiden PGA Tour win might not be too far away.
