After last week’s Thursday Night NFL debacle, we may have an even worse game slated for Week Six. Last week’s game featured zero touchdowns in a battle where the Indianapolis Colts prevailed over the Denver Broncos. This week, we will have the 1-4 Washington Commanders travel to play the 2-3 Chicago Bears in a matchup between two of the most uninspiring teams across the NFL. It may not be a great game but we still have some bets to make it somewhat interesting.
Chicago Bears vs Washington Commanders betting preview
The Bears are one of the most boring teams to watch across the NFL. Despite boasting a strong run game, they have no passing ability and have the league worst passing offense. They are only averaging slightly over 125 passing yards a game. That is ridiculously bad and a return to the style of football that was prevalent in the 1960s. While Chicago have a top five rushing offense, running the ball doesn’t translate to wins in today’s NFL and you need to be able to pass. Also, the Commanders have a strong rush defense and they should fare somewhat well in that area. The way to beat Washington is to throw the ball and we simply do not trust the Bears’ ability to pass. For that reason, the value is on the Commanders in what should be an ugly affair.
The Commanders are not a good team by any means but they have playmakers on offense. Depending on the health of star rookie Jahan Dotson, they may have three good receivers available for this game and that may make the difference. QB Carson Wentz makes a ton of bad throws but his weapons like Terry McLaurin, Curtis Samuel and the aforementioned Dotson can cover that up. The Bears have good counting stats when it comes to defending the pass but that’s partially because teams don’t need to pass to beat them. They have the second worst rush defense in the league and the Bears let bad offenses look good playing them. We expect that to happen in this game as the Commanders just have more firepower than their opponents in this contest.
Washington Commanders +1.5
David Montgomery Anytime Touchdown Scorer
Due to the Bears’ ancient gameplan on offense, their running back, David Montgomery gets a ton of work. When healthy, he consistently gets over 20 opportunities a game and he has been very effective. Montgomery only has one touchdown this season but considering the workload he gets, he is due for some positive regression. In what should be a slow game where the Bears will once again run the ball a lot, Montgomery to score a touchdown is a strong bet. Points will be limited in this game but of the favorites to score, Montgomery is the safest option.
David Montomery Anytime Touchdown Scorer
Brian Robinson Anytime Touchdown Scorer
Brian Robinson is a rookie running back for the Washington Commanders and he may be the story of the season. After getting shot in an attempted carjacking just a month ago, Robinson made his NFL debut last week and got nine carries. That was far and away the team lead in rushes and he projects to be the starting running back moving forward. He will likely get more carries in this game as the team tries to work him back to full health and he should feast with them. As we previously mentioned, the Bears have the second worst rush defense in the league and have already allowed eight rushing touchdowns this season. While this is a bit of a longshot due to Robinson’s inexperience, he looks like he will be the starter moving forward and this is a great spot for him to get his first career touchdown.
