Tom Brady out of retirement, Bucs plunge in Super Bowl betting

Tom Brady, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

After two long months of ‘retirement’, Tom Brady has announced that he is coming back for a 23rd year in the NFL. He will be returning to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and will immediately make them one of the Super Bowl betting favorites.

Usually, when a quarterback like Brady retires, they have had a clear drop-off in their performance. Peyton Manning, Brett Favre and Joe Montana all knew their time was up. For Brady, however, he is coming off one of his best seasons as a pro and it didn’t make a ton of sense that he would be done.

Brady had 5,316 passing yards, 43 touchdowns and only 12 interceptions last year. He was an MVP candidate and his team lost by three points to the eventual Super Bowl champions in the Divisional Round. He is still playing at an extremely high level, and although he will be 45 at the start of the 2022 NFL season, it would be foolish to doubt him.

The retirement never made much sense for Brady outside of his age. He has proved he can still produce, and for a guy as competitive as him, it has to be tough leaving the NFL as one of the best quarterbacks in the league. Now, he comes back with his eyes set on winning his eighth Super Bowl.

He returns to a loaded Tampa Bay team that went 13-4 last year. Brady announced his return prior to free agency and will use the news to get a lot of Bucs players to re-sign as they have a chance to compete. They will be without stud WR Antonio Brown but will bring back plenty of passing options for Brady to throw to.

Chris Godwin got the franchise tag, Mike Evans is signed and Rob Gronkowski will most likely return. The Bucs are loaded and in a position to dominate. Their other division mates do not have a lot of talent and the Bucs should be able to coast to the playoffs.

At the very least, Brady’s return has at sent a shudder down 31 teams’ spines. The boogeyman is back and has all the required talent around him to continue his success. The Bucs are now the third biggest favorites to win the next Super Bowl at +1000 with Bovada, and although it is early, betting on a team with Tom Brady in it is never a bad proposition.
