UFC veteran Tony Ferguson has set his sights on a return to competition in 2025, sharing his determination and plans for the future in an Instagram post on Thursday.

At 40 years old and following a difficult stretch of eight consecutive losses, the former interim UFC lightweight champion remains resolute in his decision to continue fighting.

“Completely destroyed myself to reinvent it,” Ferguson wrote.

“As an artist, I aim to show something you’ve never seen before. Happy New Year crew. 2025 in my sights. Stay tuned and watch the magic unfold. New missions acknowledged. Fight news coming soon.”

Ferguson’s prime years in the UFC showcased his dominance as one of the top lightweight fighters.

He amassed a remarkable 12-fight win streak and claimed the interim lightweight championship in 2017. However, his career has taken a downturn in recent years, with his last victory coming in 2020.

Most recently, Ferguson was submitted by Michael Chiesa in August 2024, a bout where he entered as a heavy underdog with the top online sportsbooks.

Despite the challenging period, Ferguson has been adamant that retirement is not an option.

“F*ck no I’m not retiring,” he declared in October 2024.

“I’m too old to retire. I’m 40 years old. I’m halfway to 80, I’ve been competing since I was five years old in multiple sports.”

Ferguson also reflected on what keeps him motivated, highlighting the importance of discipline and growth.

“What I really need is to find that coaching, that discipline around other people, being uncomfortable in practice so that way you’re not miserable in the fight. That’s where we’re at right now,” he added.

Although Ferguson has not confirmed where he will compete in 2025, many believe his UFC tenure may have come to an end following his recent loss.

Still, the fighter’s resilience and drive ensure that fans can expect to see him in action again as he embarks on the next chapter of his storied career.
