Spurs vs Man United EPL betting preview

Manchester United will be hoping to advance their chances of finishing in the top four when they face a beleaguered Tottenham Hotspur side this weekend in the English Premier League.

Successive league defeats against Liverpool and Burnley towards the tail end of January prompted United to push for the acquisition of Bruno Fernandes and Odion Ighalo, two players who have improved the squad by leaps and bounds.

The duo, who have played a direct role in nine goals since arriving at Old Trafford, have helped Manchester United to not just regain their confidence but also increase their chances of qualifying for next season’s UEFA Champions League.

The Red Devils extended their unbeaten run in all competitions to 10 games with their 2-0 win over archrivals Manchester City last weekend. That took United’s tally to 45 points, three points behind Chelsea in fourth and three points ahead of sixth-placed Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Tottenham Hotspur, meanwhile, will be hoping to end their six-match winless run in all competitions. Jose Mourinho’s side suffered a devastating 3-0 defeat at the hands of Bundesliga side Red Bull Leipzig on Tuesday night to crash out of the Champions League at the round of 16.

The defeat means Spurs will conclude a 12th consecutive season without a trophy, with a top four finish being the only thing they can compete for. Even that is easier said than done, as the North London side sit eighth in the standings on 41 points, seven points adrift of Chelsea in fourth.

Tottenham Hotspur team news

Jose Mourinho believes Spurs are in the midst the worst injury crisis in Europe, with a number of influential figures missing ahead of Manchester United’s visit.

January signing Steven Bergwijn will sit out the rest of the season due to a nasty ankle injury suffered in last weekend’s 1-1 draw with Burnley, while Harry Kane (hamstring) and Son Heung-min (arm) will also miss the fixture.

Moussa Sissoko is sidelined with a long-term knee injury, Ben Davies will miss with a hamstring problem, Juan Foyth is battling a groin issue and Davinson Sanchez suffered a recent injury setback.

Manchester United team news

Ole Gunner Solskjaer will be pleased that his injury woes have reduced in recent weeks.

Axel Tuanzebe and Tim Fosu-Mensah are close to returning from injury, but Marcus Rashford (back) and Paul Pogba (ankle) will miss Sunday’s trip to London.

Anthony Martial has enjoyed a decent run for Manchester United in recent weeks.

The Frenchman, who struck against Manchester City last weekend, has scored 16 goals in all competition, which puts him three shy of the injured Marcus Rashford in the club scoring charts.

With three goals in his last four Premier League outings, Martial has a very good chance of finding the back of the net against a vulnerable, injury-riddled Tottenham side.

Fresh off a convincing win in the Manchester derby last weekend, United will be beaming with confidence ahead of their trip to the English capital. Given that Solskjaer handed Mourinho his first loss in charge of Tottenham, coupled with the fact that Spurs have no recognised strikers available, the Red Devils look set to compete the double over Spurs.
