While the UFC 250 Main Event is a lopsided affair pitting heavy favorite Amanda Nunes against Felicia Spencer for the UFC Women’s Featherweight Championship, the three fights leading up to it are all very competitive. These fights should be both entertaining to watch and interesting to handicap for UFC fans ahead of Saturday’s PPV event in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Bantamweight: Cody Garbrandt (-140) vs Raphael Assuncao (+120)
Cody Garbrandt (11-3-0) enjoyed a meteoric rise through the MMA ranks, surging to 11-0-0 including a 6-0 record in the UFC that hit its peak with a UFC Bantamweight Championship win over Dominick Cruz at UFC 207 in 2016. But Garbrandt’s fall has been as extreme as his rise was with three straight knockout losses in his last three fights.

Rafael Assuncao (27-7-0) is also on the wrong end of a recent slide. Since going 11-1 over his previous 12 fights, he has suffered back-to-back losses to Marlon Moraes and Cory Sandhagen. At 37 years old, Assuncao desperately needs a win here if he hopes to make one last run in the bantamweight division.
Given their recent forms, it’s difficult to know what to expect on Saturday. But assuming both men are at their best, this is a great matchup for Garbrandt. Assuncao doesn’t have the overwhelming power to take advantage of Garbrandt’s weak chin, and Garbrandt’s takedown defense should help keep him out of Assuncao’s wheelhouse.
Cody Garbrandt to win by KO/TKO
Bantamweight: Aljamain Sterling (-110) vs Cory Sandhagen (-110)
If not for Cody Garbrandt’s popularity and name recognition, this fight would be the co-main event. Aljamain Sterling (18-3-0) has bounced back from his loss to Marlon Moraes back in 2017 with four straight wins, and Cory Sandhagen (12-1-0) has won each of his last seven fights including a perfect 5-0 record so far with the UFC.
Both of these guys are super talented, in top form, and likely due for a title shot in short order coming off of a win in this one. Expect this one to go to the cards, with Aljamain coming out on top by the slimmest of margins.
Aljamain Sterling to win by points decision
Welterweight: Neil Magny (-135) vs Anthony Rocco Martin (+115)
Neil Magny (22-7-0) and Anthony Rocco Martin (17-5-0) should put on a show in this one. Both are coming off of nice wins and will be looking to build some momentum with a decisive victory at UFC 250. This fight is very likely to go the cards, and we couldn’t blame you for taking the underdog odds in what figures to be a competitive fight, but Magny’s seven-inch reach advantage should give him enough of an edge to pull out the win.
Neil Magny to win by points decision
Bantamweight: Sean O’Malley (-485) vs Eddie Wineland (+385)
The rest of the main card will produce more competitive matchups, but the opening bout should kick things off with some fireworks. Sean O’Malley is a perfect 11-0 as a professional with wins by knockout in five of his last seven fights. Eddie Wineland (24-13-1) will be at a severe striking disadvantage in this one and would do well to just survive the onslaught. But this will be easier said than done, as O’Malley has clear strength and reach advantages that should lead to an explosive finish.

UFC 250 preliminary card
Featherweight: Chase Hooper (-185) vs Alex Caceres (+160)
Middleweight: Ian Heinisch (-135) vs Gerald Meerschaert (+115)
Featherweight: Cody Stamann (-260) vs Brian Kelleher (+220)
Middleweight: Charles Byrd (-170) vs Maki Pitolo (+150)
