In the co-main event of UFC Fight Night 178, two men desperate for a win clash in a welterweight bout as Donald Cerrone (36-15-0) takes on Niko Price (14-4-0). This high-octane fight should serve as a nice lead in to the main event, which features another welterweight bout between Tyron Woodley and Colby Covington.

Cerrone is a respected veteran that has been with the UFC since 2011. But there is no denying that ‘Cowboy’ is getting towards the end of his career; he is just 4-8 over his last 12 fights and 0-4 over his last four. The TKO losses to Tony Ferguson, Justin Gaethje, and Conor McGregor are all forgivable given that they came against elite opponents, but his most recent loss to Anthony Pettis came against a beatable fighter who had gone 4-8 in his previous 12 fights.

Price was once an extremely promising welterweight prospect who held an 8-0-0 record and opened his UFC career with three straight wins (including one that was overturned when he tested positive for marijuana after the fight). Since then, Price has gone just 4-4 in his last eight bouts. He did look competitive in his last match against Vicente Luque, but he ended up taking the loss due to a doctor’s stoppage TKO.

This is an important fight for both men at this point in their respective careers. For Cerrone, a win over a dangerous young striker like Price could prove he still has something left in the tank. For Price, a win over a respected veteran like Cerrone could give him some momentum as he enters what should be his fighting prime.

If Cerrone can withstand Price’s aggressive attack and take this fight to the mat, he’ll have a shot at an upset. But at this stage in his career, we just aren’t sure Cerrone will be able to take control of this fight. Look for Price to get the job done before this one has a chance to go to the cards.
