UFC Fight Night 180 betting preview

The main event of Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 180 between Brian Ortega and ‘The Korean Zombie’ Chan Sung Jung will likely determine the new no. 1 contender for the UFC Featherweight Championship. While that bout should be an excellent headliner, there are plenty of other great fights to handicap and enjoy in Abu Dhabi leading up to the main event. Let’s take a look at the latest odds and value bets on offer at leading UFC betting sites.

Jessica Andrade (-151) vs Katlyn Chookagian (+131)

Jessica Andrade (20-8-0) has lost each of her last two fights, but those losses came against two of the best women’s MMA fighters in the world in Weili Zhang and Rose Namajunas. Andrade’s split-decision loss to Namajunas at UFC 251 was an instant classic that earned Fight of the Night honors. Andrade moves up to flyweight for this bout looking for a fresh start in a new division.

She will take on Katlyn Chookagian (14-3-0), who has won three of her last four fights and is 6-2 in her last eight fights overall. Chookagian most recently defeated Antonina Shevchenko in May after losing to her sister, Valentina Shevchenko, in a championship bout at UFC 247. The 31-year-old is trying to fight her way back into contention for another title shot, and a win over Andrade would go a long way.

This will be a good fight, but Andrade’s clear advantage in the power department should eventually overwhelm Chookagian and lead to a successful flyweight debut.

Jimmy Crute (-330) vs Modestas Bukauskas (+270)

Jimmy Crute (11-1-0) has opened his UFC career with a 3-1 record, earning two of his three wins with the promotion by submission and one by knockout. Modestas Bukauskas (11-2-0) has won each of his last seven fights including his UFC debut in July when he earned a TKO win over Andreas Michailidis. Bukauskas has a shot at an upset here if he can keep this fight off the mat, but that’s a big ‘if’. As long as Crute doesn’t try to trade blows with Bukauskas and instead uses his advantage in the ground game, he should be able to secure the win as the heavy favorite.

James Krause (-158) vs Claudio Silva (+138)

James Krause (27-8-0) was on a six-fight winning streak before losing to Trevin Giles in a tight split decision at UFC 247. He’ll look to bounce back against Claudio Silva (14-1-0), who is a perfect 5-0 in the UFC and hasn’t lost a fight since being disqualified in his first bout as a professional all the way back in 2007. In a contest that has sleeper Fight of the Night potential, look for Silva to pull off the upset with a well-timed submission.

Thomas Almeida (-130) vs Jonathan Martinez (+110)

Thomas Almeida (21-3-0) was a perfect 20-0 as a professional including a 4-0 start with the UFC before losing three of his last four fights. Jonathan Martinez (12-3-0) has opened his UFC career with a 3-2 record, most recently defeating Frankie Saenz on August 1. It’s tough to guess what version of Almeida we’ll get after a 33-month layoff, but he’s still only 29 years old and it’s tough to pass on him to bounce back at this price.
