Rafael dos Anjos vs. Islam Makhachev was the original main event scheduled for UFC Fight Night 183. The card was put in jeopardy when Makhachev was forced to pull out of the event due to a staph infection, but Paul Felder stepped in on five days’ notice to keep the main event in place. Rafael dos Anjos (29-13-0) is just 1-4 over his last five fights since going 13-3 in his previous 16 bouts that included a brief stint as UFC Lightweight Champion. While dos Anjos has lost a step in his advanced age, his recent struggles have more to do with a murderer’s row of opponents in Colby Covington, Kamaru Usman, Leon Edwards, and Michael Chiesa. Paul Felder is dangerous, but not at the same level as this group.

Felder (17-5-0) was actually scheduled to be the color-commentator for this event before taking the fight on short notice. He is a capable striker that does pose a threat at an upset. The issue is that despite dos his recent struggles, dos Anjos hasn’t been stopped in any of his last five losses.

In a five-round fight that Felder had to cut weight for and didn’t have time to properly train for, his only realistic path to victory is a quick knockout. But dos Anjos has a strong chin, and as the fight wears on, dos Anjos should have a clear advantage as the fighter who has been preparing for this main event. Abdul Razak Alhassan (10-2-0) has earned all 10 of his professional wins by way of first-round knockout. After a disappointing return to the UFC after a long layoff in July with a decision loss to Mounir Lazzez, Alhassan will look to get back to his quick-finishing ways against Khaos Williams.

Williams (10-1-0) will come out swinging too in his second fight with the UFC after earning a first-round knockout against Alex Moreno in his UFC debut in February. But against a fast and furious striker like Alhassan, he may not last long.

He’ll face his toughest test to date in Sean Strickland (21-3-0), who successfully returned from a two-year layoff in October with a decision win over Jack Marshman. This should be a fantastic fight that could go either way, but Allen’s wrestling edge on the mat should lead to a victory.
