Katlyn Chookagian and Jennifer Maia are set to clash in in the co-main event of this Saturday’s UFC on ESPN 32 card. Here’s a look at that match and the other three matches on the main card leading up to the main event of Calvin Kattar vs. Giga Chikadze in Las Vegas.

Women’s Flyweight: Katlyn Chookagian (-180) vs. Jennifer Maia (+155)

Katlyn Chookagian (16-4-0) has bounced back from her knockout loss to Jessica Andrade in 2020 with back-to-back decision wins over Cynthia Calvillo and Viviane Araujo. Jennifer Maia (19-7-1) has alternated wins and losses over her last five fights, most recently defeating Jessica Eye by decision at UFC 264. One of the two losses over her current 3-2 run came by decision against Chookagian back at UFC 244.

Both of these women average less than 0.3 takedowns per 15 minutes, so expect this fight to stay off of the mat. This bodes well for Chookagian, who is an excellent striker that does well when she is able to stay in her comfort zone. This looks like the type of favorable matchup that she can grind out a win in.

Flyweight: Brandon Royval (-170) vs. Rogerio Bontorin (+145)

Brandon Royval (12-6-0) has lost each of his last two fights, via submisson to Alexandre Pantoja last August and by knockout against Brandon Moreno in 2020. Prior to the loss to Moreno, Royval was 4-0-0 over his previous four fights with four straight submission wins. Rogerio Bontorin (17-3-0) defeated Matt Schnell by decision in his last fight to snap a two-fight losing streak.

This should be a fun strength vs. strength bout as both of these fighters are most comfortable grappling and shouldn’t take long getting the fight down to the mat. Royval is the more polished prospect and should score the win here, but given his current form and the similar styles of these two fighters, this is as good a spot as any on the card to take a shot on the underdog.

Heavyweight: Jake Collier (-128) vs. Chase Sherman (+108)

Jake Collier (12-6-0) has alternated wins and losses all the way back to October of 2014, compiling a 5-5-0 record over his last 10 fights. The heavyweight lost by split decision to Carlos Felipe in his most recent bout at UFC 263. Chase Sherman (15-8-0) fell to 4-5-0 over his last nine fights and to 1-5 over his last six UFC fights with his decision loss to Parker Porter in August. Sherman throws and eats a ton of significant strikes; one might land for a knockout win, but Collier’s superior defense and speed should lead the betting site favorite to a win.

Featherweight: Joanderson Brito (-133) vs. Bill Algeo (+113)

Joanderson Brito (12-2-1) is set to make his UFC debut riding a 10-fight win streak and an 11-0-1 unbeaten streak. Bill Algeo (14-6-0) is 2-3 over his last five fights with a 1-2 record in the UFC. Algeo is a very beatable opponent that shouldn’t do much to get in the way of Brito’s first UFC win.
