UFC Vegas 16 main card preview

The UFC Vegas 16 card has a pair of competitive fights and live dogs in the main event between Jack Hermansson and Marvin Vettori and in the co-main event between Jamahal Hill and Ovince Saint Preux. The rest of the main card on Saturday night has more heavy favorites, but might we see an upset or two? Here are the latest odds and best bets on offer at UFC bookmakers.

Women’s Flyweight: Taila Santos (-210) vs Montana De La Rosa (+180)

Taila Santos (16-1-0) was a perfect 15-0-0 when she entered the UFC in 2019 and lost in her debut fight against Mara Romero Borella. She bounced back with a win over Molly McCann in her most recent fight in July. Montana De La Rosa (11-6-0) has a lot more UFC experience with a 4-2 record but has lost two of her last three fights.

De La Rosa will have the advantage in this fight if she can get it to the ground. But that may be easier said than done as Santos is clearly stronger and the superior striker. It’s possible that De La Rosa steals one here with a submission, but it’s more likely that Santos keeps her opponent at bay and does enough in the striking game to secure a win.

Light Heavyweight: Roman Dolidze (-210) vs John Allan (+180)

Roman Dolidze (7-0-0) is off to a 7-0 start to his career that includes an impressive first-round knockout win over Khadis Ibragimov in his UFC debut in July. John Allan (13-5-0) won his UFC debut against Mike Rodriguez in July of 2019 but had that result overturned due to a failed drug test.

This won’t necessarily be a simple fight for Dolidze. Allan is a tough scrapper that has never been knocked out in his professional career. He could turn this into a fight, but taking a guy coming off of a 17-month layoff against a young prospect who has bulldozed his way through his first seven professional opponents doesn’t sound all too appealing. We’ll go with the favorite here.

Featherweight: Movsar Evloev (-650) vs Nate Landwehr (+475)

These lopsided odds have more to do with how good Movsar Evloev (13-0-0) is than they do with Nate Landwehr (14-3-0) not being a solid opponent. Landwehr owned a seven-fight winning streak before losing his UFC debut via knockout to Herbert Burns, but he shook off that loss with a decision win over Darren Elkins in May.

The issue is that Evloev is a phenomenal athlete that has the potential to be a future star in the UFC. His well-rounded game and excellent conditioning have led to three straight comfortable decision wins to kick off his UFC career, and it’s difficult to see a different result coming out of this fight. The head-to-head price doesn’t offer much value, so look to bet on a decision win for a better payout in this one.
