According to a recent report released by the American Gaming Association (AGA), total gross gaming revenue (GGR) across all verticals in the United States for the January–November working year in 2022 came to $54.93 billion — a 13.4% increase on 2021’s all-time high revenue records.
One of the highlights of the report was the increase recorded in November. The AGA showed a 2.4% year-on-year rise in revenue nationwide, coming to $5.02 billion across verticals including traditional casino games, sports betting and iGaming. Meanwhile, the first 11 months of 2022 saw total GGR standing at $54.93 billion and still 13.5 more than the same period in 2021.
At the state level, Maryland joined the list of jurisdictions offering sports betting in 2022, increasing the number of legalized markets to 27. Nevada recorded a loss in gaming revenue despite foot traffic increasing by 4.9% due to a variety of events in the state. Table games revenue dropped by 21.2% as table wins reduced by 23.6%.
Based on verticals, casino slot machines and table games nationwide racked up revenue of $43.79 billion, tracking 6.7% ahead of the same period in 2021. Meanwhile, sports wagering boomed by 27% as Americans bet $9.40 billion on sporting events in November alone. Despite this, sportsbook hold declined by 9.8% to 7.9%. Overall, revenue from the sports wagering vertical for the year amounted to $6.5 billion.
Online casinos experienced consistent growth as they posted a revenue of $458.4 million for the month of November and $4.54 billion for the entire year. This showed a 36.3% increase for the same period in 2021.
