NY Giants to trade first-round pick Kadarius Toney

In yet another move in this crazy offseason, the Giants are now rumored to be trading young wide receiver, Kadarius Toney. It would be an interesting move and feels like a weird trade to make. Toney has only year in the NFL and was the Giants first round pick just a year ago. To give up on a player of his talent at this stage in his career would certainly be head scratching.

The former 20th overall pick had a rocky first season and left fans wanting more. He battled a multitude of injuries and was only available for 10 games. In those games, he had 39 catches for 420 yards and no touchdowns. While those stats aren’t very impressive, he flashed his ability on multiple occasions and had some dazzling catches.

His signature moment came in a game against the Dallas Cowboys where Toney had 10 catches for 189 yards and consistently torched whoever was covering him. It was that game where Toney truly showed the dominant receiver he could be moving forward.

At only 23 years old, Toney will have no shortage of suitors. Also, unlike many of the other receivers on the market right now, Toney is under team control for at least the next three seasons and will not be demanding a new contract.

Toney recently skipped optional offseason training camp and it appears that is why the Giants are shopping him. If they feel he is not 100% bought in, it would make sense to deal him. Even though he is a good piece, the Giants are not in a position to win and if they can get draft picks, it would make sense to trade him.

Overall, Toney will be a good piece for whatever team he’s on next season. He has shown big play ability and possesses game breaking speed. Toney has a lot of talent, and as long injuries don’t continue to strike, he will be a good player for a long time. This rumor is an interesting situation due to how young Toney is. However, if this offseason has taught us anything, it’s that anything can happen. We will see how this situation unfolds and whether the young wide receiver ends up on a new team in the coming weeks.
