Wales vs Denmark betting preview
Wales finished second in Group A behind Italy, despite losing 1-0 to the Azzurri in their final group match. They will be without centre-back Ethan Ampadu for their round of 16 encounter following his second-half red card against Italy, meaning this Welsh side will be up against it from the get-go against this Denmark line-up.
If Wales bring the form that saw them defeat Turkey 2-0 in the group stage, where Aaron Ramsey and Gareth Bale were at their dynamic best, they are in this encounter right up to their necks. However, the Dragons will need to overcome a poor head-to-head record against Denmark, having lost both of their previous encounters in the UEFA Nations League back in 2018.

Since losing star playmaker Christian Eriksen in their opening match of Euro 2020, Denmark have been up against the wall. Despite the loss of Eriksen, they were leading at half-time against Belgium before ultimately going down 2-1. But the Danes then backed that effort up with a dominant 4-1 win against Russia, consolidating their spot in the Round of 16.
In attack Yussuf Poulsen has been hard to contain, netting a goal in both of Denmark’s last two games. With a midfield of Thomas Delaney, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Daniel Wass, the attacking combination of Poulsen and Martin Braithwaite will have their chances to help Denmark proceed to the Euro quarter-finals for the fifth time.
Wales vs Denmark match predictions & best bets
First goalscorer: Yussuf Poulsen
As mentioned previously, Yussuf Poulsen is in fine scoring form. He netted the opening goal in the Danes’ second group match against Belgium in the second minute and followed up with an opportunistic strike in their dominant 4-1 win over Russia. The striker from Red Bull Leipzig in the Bundesliga has three goals from his last five international caps, and with ridiculous odds of +750 for him to be the first goalscorer in this encounter, we are happy to snap up that value.
Wales have been far from convincing throughout Euro 2020, and with arguably their best central defender out of this match due to suspension, we expect Denmark to be too clinical in the end. With stars littered throughout their line-up – from Kasper Schmeichel between the posts, to Simon Kjaer and Andreas Christensen in defence, to the likes of Delaney, Hojbjerg and Wass in midfield, to Poulsen and Braithwaite in attack – this Danish side has the entire football world behind them following the Eriksen incident and we expect this fairytale to continue for at least another game.
