Watford vs Liverpool EPL betting preview

Liverpool will be hoping to extend their impressive unbeaten run when they travel to Hertfordshire this weekend to take on Watford in Matchweek 28 of the 2019-20 English Premier League season.

Despite suffering a scare on Monday night, Jurgen Klopp’s side managed a 3-2 win over a stubborn West Ham United side. The result marked Liverpool’s 18th successive win in the English top flight, equalling the record set by Manchester City in their golden 2017/18 campaign.

Since losing 2-1 to the Citizens in January of 2019, the Reds have gone 43 Premier League matches unbeaten. The current record for the most number of EPL matches without a defeat is held by Arsenal’s Invincibles, who strung together 49 lossless games during their famous 2003/04 campaign. Liverpool could eclipse that run this season.

Appointed in early December as Watford’s third manager of the 2019/20 EPL campaign after Javi Gracia and Quique Sánchez Flores, Nigel Pearson came into the job with the burden of expectation with everyone expecting him to orchestrate the kind of relegation escape he did with Leicester City during the 2014/15 season.

Watford’s resurgence under Pearson has been commendable, as the Hornets have trimmed the gap from six points to a single point below safety. However, last weekend’s 3-0 drubbing at the hands of Manchester Unite left the Hertfordshire side on 24 points – a point below Aston Villa in 17th and three goals adrift of West Ham in 18th.

Watford team news

The Hornets could welcome the return of Spanish defender Kiko Femenia, who has been out of action since suffering a hamstring injury against Wolverhampton Wanderers in December, but right-back Daryl Janmaat may need another week to fully recovering from a knee injury.

Liverpool team news

Veteran midfielder James Milner continues to nurse a muscle injury suffered in early January, while Xherdan Shaqiri has also been ruled out due to a recurring a calf problem.

Skipper Jordan Henderson will miss the trip to Vicarage Road having limped off with a hamstring injury during the defeat to Atletico Madrid in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League round of 16.

Mohamed Salah to score/Liverpool to win

Mohamed Salah currently leads Liverpool’s scoring charts with 19 goals across the board. That puts the Egyptian star four goals ahead of Sadio Mane, with whom he shared the EPL Golden Boot last season, while his EPL tally of 15 goals leaves him only two behind leader Jamie Vardy.

With four goals in his last four Premier League appearances, Salah has a great chance of increasing his tally against a Hornets side who have conceded 11 goals in their last five games in all competitions.

Watford vs Liverpool EPL betting predictions

Liverpool to win both halves

Winners of last season’s UEFA Champions League, Liverpool have replicated their majestic European form in the EPL with 26 wins from 27 outings. Given the stark difference between these two sides, and the fact the Reds are 15-0 up on the Hornets in their last four meetings, one wouldn’t expect anything less than a regal performance by the champions-elect.
