Wednesday’s Champions League best bets & top odds – Matchday 3

UCL Matchday 3 betting preview

Matchday 3 of the 2022/23 UEFA Champions League campaign continues on Wednesday with another slate of eight games. Teams like Real Madrid, Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain will feature in some interesting fixtures. These are our best bets for October 5, with odds courtesy of Bovada.

Red Bull Leipzig vs Celtic

If you’re not familiar with Christopher Nkunku’s play, you are in for a treat. The Frenchman is an attacking midfielder for Red Bull Leipzig and he has established himself as one of the most impressive attackers in the world. Last year, Nkunku had 35 goals in 52 games across all competitions and this year, he has eight goals across 12 games. Nkunku is a bonafide star and he will be a hot commodity on the transfer market in the future. But that’s all beside the point when it comes to this bet. Simply put, he is playing too well to be doubted and Leipzig should be able to break down the Celtic defense. Celtic have conceded four times through two Champions League games and they will struggle with Nkunku. Expect him to get on the scoresheet, and +155 is a great value bet for one of the most underrated players in the world.

Manchester City vs Copenhagen

Julian Alvarez is the other striker for Manchester City. While everyone knows Erling Haaland, they may not be as familiar with Alvarez and they should. In this game, we expect Haaland to get a rest as Manchester City should dismantle an inferior Copenhagen side. If that happens, Alvarez will get the start and he already has three goals in limited time this season. While this is a short line, Alvarez is a very talented player and he will have the best system in the world creating opportunities for him. Also, if Alvarez doesn’t start, this bet will be voided so it’s risk-free in that sense. But, if Alvarez starts, we expect him to score in a game where City could tally five or more goals.

Benfica vs Paris Saint-Germain

This is sneakily an awesome game between two great European teams. PSG and Benfica are both yet to drop points in their two Champions League fixtures and this will be a battle for the lead in their respective group. Benfica have impressive wins against both Maccabi Haifa and Juventus in this tournament but those teams aren’t on PSG’s level. Benfica have been able to do a lot with their talent level but dealing with Lionel Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe is a completely different monster. We expect Benfica to struggle in this fixture and ultimately lose to PSG.

This could finally be PSG’s year. For some reason, unlike all of their talented teams of the past, this team feels more cohesive and PSG are one of the most impressive teams across Europe. They have only dropped two points through nine games in Ligue Un and they are yet to drop any points in European play. We expect them to win all three points in this spot and while this will be a tough away game, PSG have too much talent for Benfica to stop. At -140, we love PSG to win and once again show just how dangerous they can be when they are clicking.

Chelsea vs Milan

Chelsea have a new coach due to their poor Champions League performances under Thomas Tuchel and head gaffer Graham Potter should be motivated to show his new bosses what he can do. Through Chelsea’s two Champions League games, they only have one point but that should improve. This is a tough game but at home, we like Chelsea to win. The attacking pair of Raheem Sterling and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang have been very strong in the Premier League and that should carry over into the Champions League. Milan have a talented team but they don’t have the best defense and that should make the difference in this contest.

This may be a disrespectful pick against Milan but we are not buying into them. They sit atop their Champions League group but are in fourth place in the Serie A. We think they are more likely a mediocre team than the elite team they have been through two Champions League games. While they are very talented, they are not on Chelsea’s level and considering Chelsea are at home for this fixture, Milan should struggle to create offensively. At -150, Chelsea to win is a great value bet for a team looking to save their Champions League season.
