Wimbledon Day 2 betting picks & top odds – June 29, 2021

Wimbledon tennis

The Wimbledon Championships are back in 2021 after the tournament was canceled last season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The first round continues on Tuesday as gamblers look to find value on a Wimbledon betting board packed with options. Here are our top three plays for Day 2 of Wimbledon 2021.

Dusan Lajovic (+147) vs Gilles Simon (-167)

Tennis fans looking for a match with excellent play between two confident professionals in top form should look elsewhere. Dusan Lajovic is just 8-16 so far in 2021 and grass is his worst surface with a career record of 4-13 on it. So why do we have him listed as one of our best bets of the day? Because Gilles Simon has been even worse. Simon is well past his prime at 36 years old and has stumbled to a 2-12 record this year, including a 0-3 record on grass.

Bettors recognizing Simon’s name and respecting his past successes are making him the favorite here. Nothing about his current form or confidence suggest that he should be favored against anyone, especially such a sizable one. There’s too much value to pass up on here in Lajovic, even if he enters this match with plenty of issues of his own.

Nick Kyrgios (+169) vs Ugo Humbert (-194)

The first match between Nick Kyrgios and Ugo Humbert in Acapulco in 2020 ended after one set as Kyrgios was forced to retire with a wrist injury. The two clashed again at the Australian Open earlier this year in a thrilling match that saw Kyrgios fall into an early hole at 5-7, 6-4, 3-6 before storming back to win the fourth set 7-6 and the match with a 6-4 victory in the fifth set.

Humbert has been in solid form since that match, most recently winning the Halle Open on grass last week. Kyrgios, meanwhile, hasn’t played in an event since the Australian Open. The 25-year-old Humbert has climbed into the top 25 in the ATP world rankings and deserves to be the favorite here, but Kyrgios is a wild card with an aggressive style that matches up well with Humbert’s. Another exciting match with plenty of tiebreakers wouldn’t come as a surprise in this spot.

Nick Kyrgios 3-2

Roger Federer (-564) vs Adrian Mannarino (+444)

Some gamblers rely too heavily on big chalk when it comes to tennis betting, while others look to avoid it entirely. A solid strategy is somewhere in the middle; there is nothing wrong with including some chalk on your card, especially in parlays, but you want to be very careful with game selection.

This one looks about as safe as it gets. Adrian Mannarino is having an underwhelming year at 9-17 and is 0-6 in six career games against Roger Federer, who has dropped only one set in that run. Federer is the king of Wimbledon and as safe of a big favorite as you could hope for on Tuesday.

Roger Federer 3-0
