World Cup Group D betting, odds and tips – which nations will advance?
Lionel Messi and the 2014 World Cup finalist, Argentina, will start the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia as the favourite for Group D.
The South Americans are in one of the tougher groups in the tournament and will have to work hard to advance.
Croatia is no stranger to beating world powers while Nigeria is an attacking squad that was solid in qualifying. Iceland has proved itself a dangerous team and they showed that in an impressive run in the 2016 European Championships.

Argentina Group D betting
Argentina is the two-time champion of the World Cup and they were the runners up in the last tournament. They have no lack of start players with the likes of Sergio Aguero, Gonzalo Higuain, and, of course, Lionel Messi. The team was not impressive in qualifying, needing some late heroics from Messi just to qualify and they lost two recent friendlies, including getting throttled by Spain 6-1. Argentina is solid all-around the pitch and with Messi they are dangerous up front. With Messi and a few other veterans this is their last chance at international glory and anything less than a win this summer in Russia will likely be seen as a disappointment.
Croatia Group D odds
Croatia is solid on the pitch, but their main issue has been off it. They sacked their head coach while qualifying and there have been allegations of corruption for both players in the national team and administrators. The team has a lot of talent and are led by midfielder Luka Modric from Real Madrid. They have been up and down in their recent friendlies where they have had issues scoring goals. That may be the case this summer as well, but the defense of the squad is pretty solid. Modric and Ivan Rakitic have a lot of pressure in the midfield to help the defense out and also press the attack. The Croats face Nigeria in their World Cup opening match.
Nigeria betting for Group D
Nigeria was in the Group of Death in African World Cup qualifying and they went undefeated. John Obi Mikel is the veteran leader of the squad that has gone through a youth movement in the last few years. Alex Iwobi and Kelechi Iheanacho are a couple of the top up and coming players teaming with the veterans of Mikel Ahmed Musa and Victor Moses. Iwobi is their best playmaker and in the midfield and he will have to press the attack. Nigeria has not been in the best form in recent friendlies where their attack has not looked good and they have to turn things around being in tough Group D this summer.
Iceland Group D odds & betting
Iceland is making their first ever World Cup appearance and they are the least populous nation to make the tournament. They also made their first European Championships in 2016 and had an impressive run making it to the quarterfinals. The squad is very tactical and they tend to frustrate opponents. While Iceland does not feature a lot of world class talent they play great as a team and have a solid defensive back line. Gylfi Sigurðsson from Everton is the top goal scorer and playmaker for the squad that relies on set pieces and the counter-attack for many of their goals. Iceland lost three recent friendlies where their defense struggled giving up three goals in each match and if that trend continues this summer they will be in big trouble, especially facing Argentina in their World Cup opener.
