IT’S the moment every tennis fan has been waiting for; the men’s final at the Championships, with two men who know what it takes to hoist the trophy at the All England club.

Novak Djokovic’s path to the final has been smooth after a five-set thriller against South African Kevin Anderson, with straight sets victories over Marin Cilic and Richard Gasaquet, the latter being one of the easier semi-finals the world number one has played in some time.

Gasquet had a chance to snatch the first set, forcing Serbian world number one into a tiebreak, but once Djokovic secured the opening set of the match he never looked back.

Djokovic received treatment on his shoulder midway through the third set but gave himself a clean bill of health heading into his third straight Wimbledon final.

“It’s nothing that worries me,” Djokovic said.

“It will be fine for the next match.”

Roger Federer is in career-best form and takes in enormous confidence after comprehensively dismantling world no. 3 three Andy Murray in straight sets.

The world no. 2 effortlessly created winners from every angle of the court and never gave his opponent room to breathe, hitting winners seemingly at will with the Scot finding them unplayable.

Former British ace Tim Henman believes Federer, even in the twilight of his career, could be in the form of his life.

“Roger is one of the best players that has ever lived and that’s the best I have ever seen him play.” Henman said.

Federer’s semi-final opponent Andy Murray echoed Henman’s sentiments in his post-match press conference.

“If Roger serves like he did today then he will give himself a great chance to win the final.” Murray said.

Federer’s victory puts the Swiss dynamo into his tenth final at the All England club and a chance at immortality.

A triumph would certify he is the greatest player ever to take to the grass in London, with a win handing him an unprecedented eight titles, surpassing his and Pete Sampras’ equal record of seven Wimbledon titles.

The two men have met once before on the big stage in London, with the Serbian defeating Federer in five sets in the 2014 final.

It was an epic encounter that will go down as one of the great Grand Slam finals.

The Federer-Djokovic rivalry is a long and sometimes spiteful one, but the statistics are startlingly even between the two, with Federer one ahead of his younger rival, with Djokovic having the recent wood over the great Swiss.

Remarkably the pair have beaten each other in all four of the grand slams, showing just how spirited the battles between the pair have been over a long period.

The two men have only met twice on grass, with the matches split 1-1.

It promises to be one of the matches of the year.

Federer is chasing tennis immortality, and is in splendid form, dropping just one set on his way to the final.

The world number two will also be out to atone for last year’s defeat, with Djokovic outlasting the 17-time Grand Slam champion to win his second Wimbledon final in five sets.

Djokovic, who survived a quarter-final scare against South African big man Kevin Anderson, has since been able to bounce back spectacularly, disposing of both Marin Cilic and Richard Gasquet on his way to a third straight Wimbledon final.

The world number one was quick to dismiss any suggestions the shoulder he was receiving treatment on late in the match against Gasquet will be an issue in the final, but it has to come as a concern to the reigning champ.

Will a gruelling schedule also be a factor for the Serbian? He gave his all at Roland Garros just over a month ago, falling short of achieving a career Grand Slam, which seemed to mentally and physically drain the world number one.

Federer is the undisputed all-time king of grass, and with the kind of form he is currently displaying, it is hard to see even the world number one in Djokovic rivaling the seven-time Wimbledon champ.

Expect another classic contest, but when it is all said and done Federer should be the man who lifts the trophy for an unprecedented eighth time.
