2018 US Open first round parlay picks – Tuesday odds & best bets

Day 1 is in the books at the US Open and while a few seeded players on the men’s side to fall in the first round there were no top seeds than fell. On the women’s side that was not the case, as the big news of the first day was top seed Simona Halep losing.

8th seed Grigor Dimitrov was the highest seed on the men’s side to go down and it was no surprise since he lost to former top player Stan Wawrinka, who was actually the betting favorite in the match.

Here is a multi-top parlay for some of the 2nd round matches.

Leg 1 – Andy Murray vs. Fernando Verdasco

Wednesday 4PM EST

Murray is unseeded for this tournament, but the multiple major winner won in the first round beating James Duckworth 6-7, (5-7), 6-3, 7-5, 6-3. He will be taking on the tournament’s 31st seed Fernando Verdasco, who beat Feliciano Lopez in straight sets 6-2, 7-5, 6-4.

With Verdasco’s win in the first round it evened his season record at 22-22. While he did win in straight sets in the first round he has not made it past the 2nd round in his last five tournaments. He has also played a very heavy schedule this season while the same cannot be said for Murray, who has been injured much of the season. Murray did look a little rusty in the first round win, but that rust should be gone by this match.

Murray may have to fight against a smaller Verdasco, who is a solid baseline player and is a backboard when returning. However, he will come out on top because of his serve and groundstrokes, which will grind Verdasco down over the course of the match.

Leg 2 – John Isner vs. Nicolas Jarry

Wednesday 7PM EST

Isner is the 11th seed in the U.S. Open and in the opening round he beat fellow American Bradley Klahn 7-6 (7-3), 6-3, 6-4. The 6’10” giant is 26-15 this season on tour and while he has not been in top form in the last few tournaments he has won two titles this season.

Jarry is the 42nd ranked player in the world and he took down Peter Gojowczyk in the first round winning 7-6 (7-4), 4-6, 6-1, 7-5. He has played well as of late leading up to the Open including taking down Dominic Thiem in the German Open. However, he will not be as fortunate in this match facing Isner.

The big American Isner will use his big serve to take down Jarry and advance to the 3rd round.

Leg 3 – Stan Wawrinka vs. Ugo Humbert

Wednesday 9PM EST

Wawrinka dropped out of the top 100 after some knee injuries and a less than impressive 2018 season. However, his knees are now healthy and he looked great in knocking off 8th seed Grigor Dimitrov in the first round of the Open winning in straight sets 6-3, 6-2, 7-5.

Humbert is the 139th ranked player in the world and his first round win in this tournament was his first singles match on tour this season. He looked impressive in his win over Collin Altamirano 6-3, 7-6 (7-4), 6-3.

Wawrinka looks bound to go deep in the U.S. Open finally healthy and the unseeded player in the draw is dangerous to say the least just ask Dimitrov. Stan will have another solid match and like the first match he will beat Humbert in straight sets. That is why the good money is to take him with better odds to win the match 3-0.
