Ronda Rousey, a former dominant force in the women’s bantamweight division of the UFC, has been the subject of discussions regarding a potential return to the promotion. With the recent retirement of Amanda Nunes, there has been speculation about the state of the women’s bantamweight division and whether Rousey could fill the void. UFC commentator Jon Anik has expressed his reservations about the idea, citing concerns about bypassing other deserving contenders.
Anik believes that Rousey would be competitive if she were to make a comeback, as she wouldn’t enter the setting without confidence in her abilities. However, he feels that granting her an immediate title shot would be disrespectful to the fighters who have worked hard to earn their place as contenders since Rousey’s departure. Anik draws a parallel with Henry Cejudo, who returned to the UFC and bypassed several active fighters, which he did not appreciate.
While Ronda Rousey’s name holds significant value and she made a lasting impact on women’s MMA, Anik believes there are other deserving contenders in the bantamweight division who should be given priority. He acknowledges that there may not be two clear-cut contenders at the moment but emphasises that there are several women who deserve a shot at the title, excluding Rousey.
Rousey’s initial rise to fame in the UFC came with her string of victories, often ending with her signature armbar submission. However, her undefeated streak ended when she was knocked out by Holly Holm at UFC 193 in 2015. She made a comeback a year later but suffered another knockout loss to Amanda Nunes at UFC 207. Despite speculations about a possible return in 2017 and her work with a trainer, Rousey has expressed slim chances of coming back to MMA, as she currently enjoys her involvement with WWE.
Ronda Rousey’s professional MMA record stands at 12-2, with her two losses both being knockout defeats. As there are is no certainty of Rousey making a comeback in UFC the MMA betting sites currently have no odds to offer as of yet.
