Bayern Munich were forced to settle for a 3-3 draw with Eintracht Frankfurt at Deutsche Bank Park in the Bundesliga on Sunday.
The visitors took the lead within the first 15 minutes through Korean center-back Kim Min-jae. However, the hosts equalised seven minutes later via Egyptian forward Omar Marmoush, before taking the lead with a breathtaking 35th-minute counterattack, scored by Frenchman Hugo Ekitike.
Frankfurt’s advantage was short-lived, lasting only three minutes, as Bayern levelled the score through Dayot Upamecano. After the interval, Bayern went ahead thanks to a sensational strike by Michael Olise. However, their hopes were dashed when Marmoush scored in injury time, ensuring a share of the spoils in this six-goal thriller.
The draw was a disappointing result for Bayern, who were eager to return to winning ways following last Wednesday’s 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa in the UEFA Champions League.
Despite dropping points in the Bundesliga for the second consecutive week, Bayern remain top of the league on 14 points, albeit ahead of second-placed RB Leipzig on goal difference.
Meanwhile, Eintracht Frankfurt are third in the table, just one point behind both Leipzig and league leaders Bayern. A significant part of Frankfurt’s success this season has been the impressive form of Omar Marmoush, who has leapfrogged Harry Kane to lead the Bundesliga goal-scoring charts with eight goals.
Speaking to the press after the game, Bayern head coach Vincent Kompany emphasised the importance of staying composed.
“Let’s just stay calm,” said Kompany.
“It was a great performance from the team today. We had so many chances. We probably deserved more.
“We have to keep things simple, go our own way, and have faith that such performances will bring us results in the end.
“I have a lot of hope. What this team is doing is not normal. I have enough experience to know that if we continue like this, we will win games again. We have to stay calm.”
Bayern will be eager to bounce back against VfB Stuttgart after the international break, with top sports bookmakers offering -277.78 odds for the Bavarians to defeat their guests (+700) in the Bundesliga.
Meanwhile, Eintracht Frankfurt will face Bayer Leverkusen on the road on October 19, with soccer betting sites favouring the champions at -238.1 to beat Frankfurt (+600).
