UFC: Pereira confirms Ankalaev rematch talks underway

The former light heavyweight champ is eager for a chance to reclaim the belt he lost at UFC 313.

Alex Pereira v Magomed Ankalaev

Alex Pereira and Magomed Ankalaev are in talks about a rematch of their UFC 313 fight after the light heavyweight belt changed hands in Las Vegas on Saturday.

Ankalaev came into the title bout as a slight underdog across top bookmakers, but the Russian went on to win by unanimous decision and unseat the reigning champion.

However, Pereira has revealed that the two are already discussing a second meeting, due in part to the Brazilian’s track record in the UFC.

“We’re already in talks for a rematch because of everything I’ve done and the way the fight went,” he said on his YouTube channel on Thursday.

“I know we’ll have the rematch.”

Pereira is yet to give his full thoughts on his loss, saying he needs to review the fight in detail before determining whether he felt the decision was fair or not.

“Of course it’s not the result I wanted,” he said.

“We were confident for this fight.

“I was well. I trained hard.

“Some things happened, of course, but I don’t want to give excuses.

“Many people contested the decision and were in doubt.

“I haven’t watched the fight yet. I’ll watch to have my opinion, because it’s hard to have an idea when you’re in there.”

Heading into UFC 313, Pereira was a -125 favourite at Nags.bet to defend his title.

However, UFC betting sites now have him priced at +150 to win if a rematch does take place, with Ankalaev paying -175.44.

The newly crowned champion confirmed on Thursday that he is eager for a second fight against Pereira, asserting that he will finish the clash early this time.

“I’m ready for round 6 but this time will not go for full distant let’s go guys,” Ankalaev posted.
