Joining New Jersey, Iowa, and Nevada, West Virginia is now part of the William Hill family. Mountain State locals can now register an account via the website or app. The launch is expected to be a success as August was an atypically busy gambling month, and it’s just in time for the NFL season kickoff on September 10. Players can look forward to lucrative offers, in-play betting, and live casts.
New York casinos reopen after COVID hiatus
After a long wait, New York gambling patrons may enjoy visiting their favorite casinos again. The governor, Andrew Cuomo, has stated that operators may open as soon as Tuesday, September 9. There are some strict rules and regulations in place, so gamblers are urged to exercise patience while the companies adjust.
The four commercial casinos and the racing operators may operate at 25% capacity. Superior air filtration systems need to be installed, and barricades need to be placed between players at table games. New York is among the last few US states to reopen commercial casinos; however, tribal venues opened in June.
Dani Ceballos returns to Arsenal on local
Just in time for the English Premier League, which starts on September 12, Real Madrid star Dani Ceballos will return on loan to Arsenal. He finished on a high with the team and played a crucial role in their FA Cup triumph. The Gunners kick off their EPL campaign this weekend at Craven Cottage against newly promoted Fulham.
Phumelela rejects Betfred bailout
South African racing operator Phumelela has rejected a rescue from Betfred. Phumelela Gaming and Leisure found itself in financial trouble last year, and the pandemic jeopardized the company further. As of May 2020, the company has been in business rescue.
Instead of accepting a total offer of $94.4 million from Betfred, the racing operator chose to take a business rescue plan from its local creditors, Mary Oppenheimer Daughters, for a lower price. Creditors will receive 72% of what’s owed as opposed to the 100% that Betfred promised.
Lionel Messi to remain at Barcelona
In a turn of events, it seems as though Lionel Messi won’t be leaving Barcelona just yet. Instead, he will remain with the club until his contract ends. In August, Messi announced his desire to leave the club after telling management for a year that it’s time to part ways.
Messi and the president couldn’t come to an agreement, so he will conclude his contract mid-2021. Despite wanting to explore other options and new directions in his career, Messi says that his love for Barcelona will never change.
Equal pay for women’s football in Brazil
The CBF, or Brazilian Football Federation, recently announced that the women’s football team will receive the same pay and allowances as its male counterpart. Every player between the two teams will receive equal rates and prize money when representing their country internationally.

England edge out Australia in first T20I clash
In a disappointing end, the Australian team have lost the first of their T20 matches against England, who scraped home by two runs at Southampton on Friday. The final score of 162-7 left the visitors chasing 163, but the Aussies fell just shy despite strong displays from David Warner (58) and Aaron Finch (46). The boys from down under will look to turn the tables when the two teams face off again on Sunday, September 6.
