DeChambeau wins 2020 US Open

Bryson DeChambeau walked away the US Open champion on Sunday after displaying an unusual aggressive strategy at Winged Foot, which is ranked the most challenging tournament layout in the world.

As the only player to break par on the fourth day, DeChambeau finished six strokes clear of the field. He’s also followed in the footsteps of Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus to be the third male golfer to claim the US Open, US Amateur and US college titles.

Chelsea kicked off their English Premier League season with an impressive 3-0 win over Brighton & Hove Albion. However, they received a wake-up call on Sunday when Liverpool knocked them down 2-0.

The game started well and entered first-half stoppage time with neither side scoring. Then Chelsea’s Andreas Christensen hauled down Sadio Mane and received a yellow card, which was later changed to a straight red upon VAR review.

Liverpool took advantage of the man advantage and brought on the recently signed Thiago Alcantara, who starred in midfield as the Reds ran out 2-0 winners thanks to a Mane brace.

Despite the many controversies surrounding Novak Djokovic, he’s still no.1 in the ATP world tennis rankings. He’s also played well after the US Open disqualification two weeks ago, landing a spot in the Italian Open final.

This tournament has been cleaner than the last one for him, but that hasn’t stopped him from letting his anger lose. During his quarter-final match against Dominik Koepfer, the Serbian smashed his racket until it broke. He also received a warning and had a verbal altercation with the umpire. 

It seems that he won’t let anything stop him as he prepares for his 52nd ATP Masters 1000 final. He will face Diego Schwartzman, who defeated Rafael Nadal in the quarter-finals.

Independiente del Valle annihilate Flamengo

The reigning Copa Libertadores champions, Flamengo, suffered a 5-0 thrashing against Independiente del Valle last week. The shock defeat was the team’s first appearance in the competition in six months after the campaign was suspended due to the global pandemic.

The Brazilian squad is working under a new coach, Domenec Torrent, after Jorge Jesus abruptly resigned in July. Torrent has had limited time with Flamengo and will have to analyze what went wrong. However, a contributing factor to the loss is the 2,800 metres (1.7 miles) altitude in Ecuador.

The ACT Brumbies met the Queensland Reds in the Super Rugby Australia final on Saturday night. In the first half, the Brumbies took the lead with two tries and a penalty kick. The Reds weren’t far behind with two penalties and a try, bringing the score to 15-13 in favour of the ACT.

The Reds fought hard in the second half, but it wasn’t enough as the Brumbies stepped it up with a drop-kick and penalty from Noah Lolesio and a try by Tom Banks to seal a 28-23 win.

Hartley wins 24 Hours of Le Mans

The Toyota Gazoo Racing team won the Le Mans 24-hour race, securing their hat-trick in the no.8 car. New Zealand’s Brendon Hartley was part of the three races, and the victory marks his second time winning. 

He replaced Fernando Alonso in the three-man squad that includes Kazuki Nakajima and Sebastien Buemi. The three men concluded the race comfortably with 387 laps. Rebellion no.1 placed second with 382, and Toyota Gazoo’s no.7 came third with 381.
