Joe Riggs and Melvin Guillard clash in a light heavyweight bout in the Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship main event this Saturday night. This inaugural event in the BKFC Fight Night series takes place at the First Interstate Arena in Billings, Montana.

Guillard vs Riggs BKFC main event analysis

Joe Riggs (3-1-1) suffered his first BKFC loss at Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship 18 in June when he lost by technical knockout by Hector Lombard fighting for the inaugural BKFC Cruiserweight Championship. Riggs returns to his normal weight class at light heavyweight for this fight where he is 3-0-1 with wins over Christian Evans, Brok Weaver and Heriberto Tovar and a draw against Walber Barros.

Melvin Guillard (2-5-0) is off to an 0-3 start with the BKFC promotion. He has been knocked out by Isaac Vallie-Flagg and Scott O’Shaughnessy, and in his most recent bout against Harris Stephenson in August he was disqualified for continuing to fight after dropping Stephenson to the canvas. While none of his strikes on the fallen Stephenson landed, Guillard was still disqualified for throwing them.

Guillard vs Riggs betting predictions

Both of these bare knuckle boxers are former MMA fighters. Joe Riggs enjoyed a decent bit of success in the MMA arena with a respectable 49-18-1 record and even ended his MMA career on an 8-1-1 run. Melvin Guillard also enjoyed success early on in his MMA career with a 29-8-2 record through his first 39 fights, but he went just 3-14 over his last 17 fights including nine straight losses before finally retiring from MMA action.

Riggs is pretty clearly the superior combat sports fighter in this matchup. It’s also worth noting that his doctor’s stoppage against Lombard in the fourth round was a somewhat controversial one as some believed he could have continued. Guillard’s got the weaker skill set and the weaker chin coming into this fight, setting the stage for what should be a pretty easy win for Riggs in Saturday night’s main event in Montana.
