This high-profile matchup along with the Wolves vs. Southampton Tottenham Hotspur vs. Arsenal games are featured in our selections for this weekend’s English Premier League Matchweek 22 best bets.

Manchester City vs Chelsea

Manchester City (17-2-2) continued its dominance over the EPL on New Year’s Day with a 2-1 road win over Arsenal. Since suffering a stunning loss at home to Crystal Palace back on October 30, City is a perfect 11-0-0 over its last 11 matches. With 53 goals scored and only 13 goals conceded in 2021-22, Manchester City owns a +40 goal differential through its first 21 matches of the season.

Chelsea (12-7-2) and Liverpool played to a 2-2 draw in their marquee matchup on January 2. That match was Chelsea’s fourth draw over its last five matches. The club was in first place atop the EPL table with an 8-1-1 record through its first 10 matches, but draws have been an issue for this team over the last two months as Chelsea is 4-6-1 over its last 11 games. The UNDER 2.5 goals is a tempting play here, though we can’t really pass on Manchester City at home at just -150 with online bookmakers. A low-scoring draw wouldn’t be surprising, but it isn’t often you get the chance to bet Man City on the moneyline at such a reasonable price.

Wolves vs Southampton

If you’ve been following our weekly plays, you know that Wolves has become a staple among the best bets due to its highly-predictable playing style. Wolves (8-4-7) actually earned an impressive upset victory before the break with a 1-0 road win over Manchester United. But more importantly for betting purposes, the game followed the same trend Wolves has been following for months; it was the eighth straight Wolves game to feature a total of one goal or less. Wolves has scored three goals and conceded two over that stretch.

This low-scoring trend has been consistent regardless of the play style of Wolves’ opponents. Southampton (5-9-6) is playing well with a 2-2-0 record over its last four matches and has produced 2.5 goals per game over that run. Expect the team’s recent scoring surge to come to a halt at the hands of Wolves’ smothering defense.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Arsenal

Davinson Sanchez scored a goal in the 96th minute on New Year’s Day to snap a 0-0 tie against Watford, propelling Tottenham Hotspur to a 1-0 road victory. Tottenham (10-3-5) improved to 5-2-0 in its last seven matches with the win. Prior to this recent seven-game hot streak, Tottenham was 2-1-5 over its previous eight matches.

Arsenal (11-2-7) had a four-match win streak snapped in its last match, losing at home to Manchster City 2-1. The club has had some hot streaks this season with that four-game win streak and a 6-2-0 unbeaten streak that started back in September, but losing stretches have also been an issue as Arsenal has seven outright losses in 2021-22. You never know which version of Arsenal is going to show up, but we’re willing to give them a pass for their loss to elite Manchester City and take a stab on them as big underdogs here in what should be a competitive match.
