Germany winning margin tips vs. Mexico – 2018 World Cup odds
Germany will kick off its pursuit of back-to-back FIFA World Cup titles when it takes on Mexico on Saturday.
No surprise that Bovada has defending champs as the betting favorite in this match, posted at -205 with Mexico at +600 and a draw at +325. The Over/Under for this match is set at 2.5 goals.
In one of the best opening matches of the World Cup defending champion Germany faces Mexico in a Group F encounter. Germany looks to repeat as World Cup champions and no team has done that since Brazil back in 1958 and 1962.
In the 11 all-time meetings between these teams Germany has won six times, Mexico has only won once, back in 1985, and there have been four draws. Germany faced Mexico in the last Confederations Cup and beat them soundly 4-1 in the last match up.
The German squad is a loaded one with World Class talent all around the pitch and they do not have any glaring weaknesses. Bayern Munich’s Thomas Müller leads the attack up front alongside Timo Werner, and Mario Gomez. Germany’s attack has not looked great in recent friendlies, but they also did not shy away from playing big powers facing France, Spain, and Brazil, where they went 1-1-1, in three of their last five friendly matches.

The tough German squad is also loaded in the midfield with the likes of Toni Kroos of Real Madrid, Julian Brandt of Bayer Leverkusen. And Mesut Ozil of Arsenal. Kroos is one of the best players in the world and he is great at spurning the attack as well as solidifying the middle of the pitch where the Germans usually control the time of possession.
Mexico has been consistent in the World Cup to say the least losing in the round of 16 in the last six tournaments. They have only won one of their last four friendly matches and their attack has not looked great coming into Russia. West Ham’s Javier Hernández leads the attack up front and he along with PSV’s Hirving Lozano give Mexico a good striker duo, but can they find the back of the net facing a great German defense? Good question, but Mexico really has to look for the counter-attack in this match.
While the counter-attack is key for Mexico they do not have a great midfield and that will really hurt them in this match. They will likely drop back on defense for most of the match trying to keep the German attack in check. MF Hector Herrera from Porto is a key player in this match and he and the other midfielders must disrupt the Germans in the middle of the pitch and not let them control the match in that area of the field.
In their loss to Germany in the Confederations Cup Mexico was down 2-0 after only eight minutes and they must get off to a better start in this match.

Germany vs. Mexico betting prediction
Germany has not looked impressive in their last two matches losing to Austria 2-1 and beating Saudi Arabia 2-1. However, those were friendlies and don’t expect them to be friendly to Mexico in this opening group match.
Germany will win the time of possession battle and Mexico will not get many scoring chances.
El Tri will put up a fight, but the Germans are way too strong, especially in the midfield. The Germans will win this match handily by a score of 2-0.
