PointsBet Sportsbook goes live in New York

PointsBet rolled out its online sportsbook in the newly launched New York sports betting market on Monday night, making it the sixth online sportsbook to go live in the state. The operator took the first wager at 10:09pm ET.

Commenting on the successful New York launch, Johnny Aitken, the CEO of PointsBet USA said:

The rollout brings the number of states in which PointsBet has an online presence to nine. The brand is also live in Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, New Jersey, Michigan, Virginia, and West Virginia.

NY mobile betting continues to grow

PointsBet was one of nine companies selected to offer online and mobile sports wagering in the state by the New York State Gaming Commission in early November. The others included BetMGM, DraftKings, FanDuel, Bally Bet, Caesars, BetRivers, WynnBets, and Resorts World Bet. These companies, however, have to meet all regulatory and statutory requirements set by the Gaming Commission before launching their digital sportsbook product in the state.

FanDuel, DraftKings, Caesars, and BetRivers were the first to receive clearance from the regulator, allowing them to start taking bets on January 8. BetMGM joined the market on January 17, making it the state’s fifth mobile betting app.

With PointsBet now live, only three of the approved companies are yet to commence operations. The licenses for these three sportsbooks – Bally Bet, Resorts World Bet, and WynnBet – will be issued on a rolling basis, according to the Gaming Commission.

It is expected that all nine operators will be live by the Super Bowl game.

PointsBet secures approval in Pennsylvania

In addition to New York, PointsBet is also looking forward to launching its various platforms in the Pennsylvania gambling market.

The Australian operator received its mobile wagering and interactive gaming licenses from the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) last week, allowing it to commence operations in the jurisdiction through a partnership with Penn National Gaming.

Pennsylvania is among the fifth largest sports gambling and iGaming markets in the country, and the operator said that it is thrilled to be approved to offer its leading internet sports wagering and online casino products to players across the state.

The company will be teaming up with NBC Sports, which is also its official and exclusive sports betting partner, to boost its market share in Pennsylvania.

“With NBC Philadelphia being a key asset in the NBC Sports portfolio, it will play a vital role in our ability to reach new customers and build brand recognition in this new market,” said Kyle Christensen, the chief marketing officer at PointsBet USA, in a statement about the accreditation by the PGCB.

“We are excited to continue telling the PointsBet story and demonstrate to sports fans and bettors in Pennsylvania exactly what sets the brand apart from among the rest.”

The company has not announced when it will go live in the Keystone State.
