Wimbledon 2018 was not without some surprises on Day 1, however, none of the very-top favorites went out.
Looking ahead to Day 2 from the All England Club, we think punters looking for some parlay action should focus on matches involving Feliciano Lopez, Juan Martin del Potro, Jack Sock, and Caroline Garcia.
Consult our recommended bookmakers for any parlay specials they may provide:

Feliciano Lopez vs. Federico Delbonis
Court 7: Tuesday @ 11:30 AM London time
Argentine-player Federico Delbonis is priced as a big underdog in his first-round match. He will face Feliciano Lopez, a player that has done some damage in Wimbledon draws in the past. His best appearance is now a dated one as he made the quarterfinals way back in 2011.
However, Lopez has gone out in the first round of four of the last six majors, including at Wimbledon 2017. Soon to be 37, Lopez’s best tennis is well behind him as he prepares for what could be a lengthy match against a much younger opponent.
If long-match fitness comes into play then don’t expect Lopez to just crumble. However, Delbonis is just 27 years old and the gap is significant.
It’s hard to go against Lopez on the moneyline as Delbonis did not play many matches on grass ahead of Wimbledon. Meanwhile, Lopez entered two events on the grass-court surface and did some damage in both.
Instead, the correct wager appears to be to bank on Delbonis winning a set. Betway sportsbook price that at $1.91 (market: To Win a Set), odds that have to be considered valuable.
Recommendation: betway odds of $1.91 on Delbonis to win at least one set against Lopez
Juan Martin del Potro vs. Peter Gojowczyk
Court 3 Tuesday @ 11:30 AM London time
Juan Martin del Potro is coming in as a heavy favorite against Peter Gojowczyk on Day 2 for Wimbledon 2018. Betway sportsbook price the Argentine at $1.13 on the moneyline. Those odds aren’t going to make anyone rich but they can help make parlay bets interesting.
Some might be sensing some upset potential in this contest because del Potro didn’t play any grass-court warm-up events after his run to the Roland Garros semifinals.
But this is a former Wimbledon semifinalist that has survived the first round in all eight of his previous showings at the All England Club. It has generally taken a Grand Slam champion caliber player to eliminate del Potro from Wimbledon over the years, although last year’s loss to Ernests Gulbis was an exception.
That said, Gojowczyk can’t yet even be mentioned in the same class as Gulbis, let alone del Potro. The 28-year old is 4-9 in his career in majors and he played no grass-court warm-up events himself this year.
The last we saw of the German on tour he was retiring against the ever-so-terrifying Cameron Norrie due to alleged hip pain while down a set and a break. The questionable retirement lead to a hefty fine for Gojowczyk and no one in the ITF will be doing him any favours any time soon.
Recommendation: Take del Potro straight-up in a parlay or a stand-alone bet of $1.85 to win in straight sets (betway).
Jack Sock vs. Matteo Berrettini
Court 12 Tuesday (3rd match on court; stadium starts at 11:30 AM London time)
Jack Sock remains the World No. 15 on tour. However, on season-to-date stats he is just 5-12 on wins and losses. A number of his losses have come to players outside of the Top 50 and even outside of the Top 100.
Sock enters his first-round match against Matteo Berrettini as a major question mark. It is a rare match where someone in the Top 20 is considered only a small favourite against someone as low-ranked as Berrettini (he’s ranked 80th).
Sock’s dismal 2018 season can only be attributed to an undisclosed injury or a lack of motivation at this point in his career. It could be that winning the Paris Masters last year and competing in the tour finals satisfied Sock’s ambition because he has not been the same player since.
The affiliated ranking points for those events will keep him buoyed for a few more months still. But punters should focus on Sock’s year-to-date ranking of about 145th instead of his outright ranking.
Berrettini won some qualifying matches on grass ahead of Wimbledon while Sock couldn’t even do that, losing to World No. 316 Daniel Brands last week in Eastbourne quallies. Furthermore, Berrettini won two matches at the French Open and he caught Dominic Thiem’s attention in the third round at the event, showing that he, Berrettini, has some legs for the best-of-five-set matches at this point.
Recommendation: Take Berrettini’s moneyline with betway at $2.10
Belinda Bencic vs. Caroline Garcia
Court 3 Tuesday (4th match on court; stadium starts at 11:30 AM London time)
Belinda Bencic probably has a better chance of winning Wimbledon at some point in her career than Caroline Garcia does. However, Bencic, who won a juniors title at the All England Club, is nowhere near her best tennis at this point in her career.
If you’ve been keeping tabs on Bencic lately, then you know she wasn’t fit enough to stay on court with one ‘Abigail Tere-Apisah’ a couple weeks ago in an ITF event. For her first-round loss (via retirement) to the World No. 348, Bencic only took away $887.
A week earlier, Bencic lost to the World No. 170 in a tour-level event.
Garcia enters Wimbledon following a fourth-round appearance last season. The French player had the same middle-round-exit result at both Melbourne Park and Roland Garros this season.
While Bencic’s result from Toronto 2015 is still more impressive than anything Garcia has ever done, it’s clearly the French player that is at a higher level of tennis at the moment. You have to worry about Bencic withdrawing from this match so focusing on the first set as opposed to the whole match is the move to take.
Recommendation: take Garcia to win the first set with betway at $1.44
