Bayern Munich hosts Union Berlin and Borussia Dortmund visits FC Koln this weekend as these two German giants battle for first place in the Bundesliga with only four points separating them. We’ll take a look at these two matchups as well as Sunday’s RB Leipzig vs Eintracht Frankfurt match in our top soccer betting picks for Bundesliga Matchweek 27.

Bayern Munich vs Union Berlin

Bayern Munich (19-3-4) played to a 1-1 draw on the road against Hoffenheim on Saturday. This marked the third straight game that Bayern was held to only one goal and the second straight match that the club had to settle for a 1-1 draw in. That’s four precious points that Bayern Munich has left on the table, allowing Borussia Dortmund to close the gap in the race for the top spot on the Bundesliga table.

Union Berlin (10-8-8) also had a 1-1 draw on Saturday at home against VfB Stuttgart. Berlin’s offense has hit a wall over the team’s current 1-1-4 skid with all four of those losses coming without a goal. Given how poorly these two offenses are performing at the moment, it’s a bit surprising to see the total in this matchup set at 3.75 goals; though the last match between these two clubs did result in a high-scoring 5-2 Bayern win. We’re expecting a lower-scoring game this time around. Look for Bayern Munich to win, but in a less flashy manner with a final score of something like 3-0 or 2-1.

RB Leipzig vs Eintracht Frankfurt

RB Leipzig (12-5-8) continued its recent stretch of strong play with a 6-1 blowout win on the road over Greuther Furth. Leipzig is now 4-1-0 over its last five matches and has outscored its opponents 17-4 over that stretch. Eintracht Frankfurt (10-7-9) has shaken out of its recent 1-1-5 slump with back-to-back wins of 4-1 over Hertha and 2-1 over VfL Bochum.

With all due respect to Hertha and VfL Bochum, they aren’t anywhere near the level of RB Leipzig. Leipzig is 7-1-1 over its last nine games and has earned six of their seven wins over that stretch by two goals or more. We’ll wager that they add another multi-goal win to this run and lay the points against the spread in what should be a comfortable victory over a middle-of-the-pack Frankfurt club.

FC Koln vs Borussia Dortmund

Borussia Dortmund (18-2-6) earned a 1-0 win on the road over Mainz 05 on Wednesday to improve to 4-1-0 over its last five matches and to gain ground on Bayern Munich at the top of the table. Dortmund is best known for its high-powered offense, but the club has been playing defense at an elite level of late with only one goal surrendered over the team’s last five games. FC Koln meanwhile is coming off of an impressive 1-0 road win over Bayer Leverkusen. Koln has scored one goal or less in each of its last six matches, but has also held its opponents to one goal or less in five of those games.

Dortmund is always capable of blowing up with a big game on offense. Its focus on defending has resulted in lower scoring games in recent weeks though with only one goal scored in each of its last three matches. It’s hard to see Koln’s strong defense and weak offense being the team to buck Borussia Dortmund’s recent trend towards low scoring games. Dortmund beat Koln 2-0 the last time these two clubs met; another 1-0 or 2-0 Dortmund win looks about right here, but we’ll take the UNDER to cover 0-0 and 1-1 draws as well.
