A BLOCKBUSTER Friday night doubleheader kicks off Round 22 of the NRL this week as the Sea Eagles take on the Rabbtiohs and the Broncos do battle with the Bulldogs.
The other games this weekend don’t look to have as much importance as the Friday night games, so sign up to our bookmakers, load up the account and take full advantage of the NRL bonus bets, including the $100 money back first try scorer special in the Broncos vs. Bulldogs game.
Broncos vs. Bulldogs
Friday, August 7, 7:45pm, Suncorp Stadium
Broncos – $1.47 (-6.5)
Bulldogs – $2.75 (+6.5)
We’re not sure what happened to the Broncos last week, but they ran into a juggernaut performance by the Manly Sea Eagles.
How they respond is the big question and the Bulldogs are coming off a gritty loss to the Roosters and they did look very good in patches.
Back at Suncorp is why most punters are leaning towards the Broncos, but the +6.5 for the Bulldogs looks like good value here.
Tip: Bulldogs +6.5 ($1.91) at Sportsbet.com.au
Exotic: Curtis Rona to score first at $8
Sea Eagles vs. Rabbitohs
Friday, August 7, 7:45pm, Brookvale Oval
Sea Eagles – $1.91 (+1.5)
Rabbitohs – $1.91 (-1.5)
The Sea Eagles showed they’re not a walkover after smacking the Broncos 44-14 last week. The Sea Eagles return to Brookvale with a full head of steam and they are a good chance of making it three straight wins.
The Rabbitohs looked out of sorts against the Panthers when winning 20-16 on Sunday, and they haven’t really got their season into full swing yet.
They do have the experience of Greg Inglis at the back which can overcome any barrier, but the Sea Eagles look to have found their groove.
Tip: Sea Eagles +1.5 ($1.85) at CrownBet.com.au
Exotic: Sea Eagles HTFT at $2.65
Warriors vs. Dragons
Saturday, August 8, 3:05pm, Westpac Stadium
Warriors – $2.05 (+2.0)
Dragons – $1.77 (-2.0)
The Warriors were sitting in a great position just two weeks ago, but they now find themselves outside the top eight and the loss of Shaun Johnson was the killer blow.
They had their chance to beat the Sharks and they probably should have, but they are lacking leadership and that was evident towards the tail-end of the game.
They face the Dragons which came from behind to beat the Knights last week, but their form prior was dreadful and we’re liking to look of the Warriors’ odds.
Both teams need this win to get back into playoff contention, so don’t be surprised to see an error-ridden game between two desperate teams.
Tip: Warriors to win ($2.05) at Sportsbet.com.au
Exotic: Vatuvei to score first at $8.50
Sharks vs. Cowboys
Saturday, August 8, 5:35pm, Remondis Stadium
Sharks – $2.45 (+4.5)
Cowboys – $1.55 (-4.5)
All of a sudden the Sharks are on 26 competition points and find themselves comfortable inside the top eight. We predicted they would make a run at the playoffs a few weeks back, but they shouldn’t be counting their chickens just yet.
They have a tough run home and taking on the Cowboys is the pinnacle this season. The Cowboys looked dodgy throughout their 32-24 win over the Raiders, but they gave them a big start and roared home with classy second-half tries.
The odds suggest this game will be close and it probably will be. The odds for the Cowboys look generous and many will include them into their multi bets.
Tip: Cowboys to win at $1.55
Exotic: Over 40 points ($1.90) at WilliamHill.com.au
Eels vs. Panthers
Saturday, August 8, 7:35pm, TIO Stadium
Eels – $2.40 (+4.0)
Panthers – $1.57 (-4.0)
When you lose to the Gold Coast Titans you know your season is going badly and that’s exactly what happened to the Eels last Monday night.
The Eels showed glimpses of good form this season, but ultimately they have been disappointing and the off-field worries have seemingly held them back.
The Panthers took the Rabbitohs close last week and were probably a touch unlucky to not come away with the win. They will, however, find this game much easier and it’s about time they showed their best form.
Tip: Panthers -4.0 ($1.90) at Sportsbet.com.au
Exotic: Panthers 13+ at $3.15
Storm vs. Titans
Sunday, August 9, 2:05pm, AAMI Park
Storm – $1.14 (-16.0)
Titans – $5.75 (+16.0)
To put it simply, the Melbourne Storm should run riot against the Gold Coast Titans.
The Storm are coming off a big loss to the Wests’ Tigers and they rarely string losses together, so watch out Titans.
The Titans did win their most recent game against the Eels, but the level of opposition wasn’t in the same ball park of the Storm and they could be facing a large deficit at halftime.
Stick with the class players and team.
Tip: Storm -16.0 ($1.91) at CrownBet.com.au
Exotic: Under 42.5 points at $1.90
Knights vs. Roosters
Sunday, August 9, 4:10pm, Hunter Stadium
Knights – $5.85 (+16.5)
Roosters – $1.13 (-16.5)
Much like the previous game, this one could be over by halftime. The Knights took a big loss against the Dragons last week and it’s tough to see them improving enough to topple the premiership favourites here.
The Roosters dug deep to score a 38-28 win against the Bulldogs and that tough game will hold them in good spirits for this.
The bookmakers have the line at 16.5 and we think the Roosters could cover that by the 40-minute break.
Tip: Roosters -16.5 ($1.90) at WilliamHill.com.au
Exotic: Tupou to score at $1.90
Raiders vs. Tigers
Monday, August 10, 7:00pm, GIO Stadium
Raiders – $1.45 (-6.5)
Tigers – $2.75 (+6.5)
Both the Raiders and the Tigers have look good in patches this season and this game could give the Raiders some late season hope of making the playoffs.
The Raiders gave up a huge lead against the Cowboys in what was a game they should have won, but their defense looked brittle under pressure in the second half.
The Tigers’ confidence will be high after upsetting the Storm 34-16, but as we know with the Tigers, the confidence is usually quick to take a hit.
We’re not sure which team will turn up to win this, so we are leaning towards a close game.
Tip: Fulltime draw ($26) at Sportsbet.com.au
Exotic: Any draw at $9.50
