The action-packed Bundesliga season continues this weekend as we are treated to nine matches of top-flight German football. With each match providing major implications across the table, here are our tips and predictions for Matchday 20 of the 2023/24 Bundesliga season.
Friday, February 2 – 8:30pm CET – Voith-Arena
Returning to the top four after a 3-1 victory over VfL Bochum last weekend, Borussia Dortmund look to extend their five-match unbeaten streak as they face a tricky away trip to Heidenheim. Unbeaten in their last six, the newly promoted side have surprised this season to climb up to 10th spot. However, with Dortmund scoring 10 goals in their last three matches, FC Heidenheim look set to struggle here.
Saturday, February 3 – 3:30pm CET – Allianz Stadium
After assisting Bayern Munich by earning a 0-0 draw against the first-placed Bayer Leverkusen last weekend, Borussia Monchengladbach now face a trip to Bavaria with hopes of another positive result. With the gap at the top now just two points, Bayern are within touching distance of the leaders and are expected to continue on their winning ways. However, Monchengladbach have historically troubled the Bavarian giants, losing once in their past six encounters, so expect them to put up a fight.
Saturday, February 3 – 3:30pm CET – Vonovia Ruhrstadion
Coming off a thrilling 3-2 loss to Bayern Munich last weekend, FC Augsburg face fellow relegation contender VfL Bochum with a great chance of securing points. With the sides separated by just one point on the table, expect this match to be close with plenty on the line. After their previous clash this season ended in a 2-2 draw, we are backing the draw once again.
Saturday, February 3 – 3:30pm CET – Merck-Stadion am Bollenfalltor
After dropping points in their draw with Borussia Monchengladbach last weekend, Bayer Leverkusen remain just two points ahead at the top of the table. Facing a must-win trip to Darmstadt this weekend, expect them to return to winning ways against the last-placed side. With SV Darmstadt holding by far the worst defensive record in the Bundesliga, look to throw in the overs for added value.
Saturday, February 3 – 3:30pm CET – Europa-Park Stadion
Following their impressive 5-2 win over RB Leipzig last weekend, VfB Stuttgart now find themselves four points clear inside the top four. With the pressure coming from the chasing pack, Stuttgart face a tricky away trip to Freiburg. Despite losing last weekend to Werder Bremen, SC Freiburg have been impressive this season as they sit seventh on the table. But after losing 5-0 to Stuttgart earlier this season, Freiburg look set to struggle here.
Saturday, February 3 – 3:30pm CET – MEWA ARENA
Back-to-back wins over top-six teams has pushed Werder Bremen into the top half of the table for the first time this season. Facing the 17th-placed Mainz this weekend, Bremen have the chance to extend their unbeaten streak to seven Bundesliga matches. After beating the relegation battlers 4-0 earlier in the season, Werder offer great value as the underdogs.
Saturday, February 3 – 6:30pm CET – RheinEnergieStadion
Unbeaten in their past four Bundesliga matches, Eintracht Frankfurt look set to cement their position in the top six as they head to Cologne. The lowest-scoring side in the Bundesliga, FC Koln sit in the relegation zone. Despite their poor form, Koln have lost just one of the past nine clashes between the sides, which puts doubts around picking the result. However, with nine of their past 10 matches going under the total goals line, that looks the play.
Sunday, February 4 – 3:30pm CET – Volkswagen Arena
With just one win from their past 10 Bundesliga matches, TSG Hoffenheim are in the midst of a mid-season form slump as they head to Wolfsburg this weekend. Coming off three consecutive 1-1 draws, Wolfsburg aren’t in the greatest form either this season as they sit just clear of the relegation fight. With both sides scoring in the last nine matchups and the last three matches won by the home side, we are backing Wolfsburg to get the job done in a high-scoring clash.
Sunday, February 4 – 5:30pm CET – Red Bull Arena
On a three-match losing streak, RB Leipzig have now dropped out of the top four. Welcoming the 15th-placed Union Berlin, Leipzig have a great chance to break their streak and keep the pressure on the teams above. Despite their poor run of form, Belgian striker Ikoma-Lois Openda has been in excellent form, scoring three goals in his last four to boost his season tally to 13. With the clear defensive struggles that Union Berlin have shown, back Openda to score here.
