Two heavyweights of the NBA Western Conference will clash on Thursday night in the first-ever game at San Francisco’s Chase Center.
The Golden State Warriors head into the season with Kevin Durant no longer in the picture and head coach Steve Kerr recently stated Klay Thompson will likely miss the whole season as he recovers from an ACL tear.
The Los Angeles Clippers are being picked by many in the NBA title betting this season with their new star additions of Kawhi Leonard and Paul George. The team won their first game of the season, beating the highly rated LA Lakers 112-102.
The Clippers were without George for the win over the Lakers and he is expected to be out until November after undergoing shoulder surgery in the offseason.
The Warriors did not stand pat over the break, as they landed All Star De’Angelo Russell to pair with Steph Curry and also got big man Willie Cauley-Stein, who is out for this game with a foot injury.

Leonard was big with 30 points in his first game for the Clippers, but it was the performance of the bench that made the difference. The four reserves that played all went for double figures, while Leonard was the only starter to do so.
Reigning Sixth Man of the Year Lou Williams had 21 points to lead the bench players with Montrezl Harrell going for 17 points and JaMychal Green and Maurice Harkless combining for 22 points.
The Clippers may have one of the best defenses in the NBA this season and they played solid D in their opening game. They held the Lakers to a FG% of 43.5% and held LeBron James and Anthony Davis to a combined 15/40 shooting night. The game was tied after the third quarter and the Clippers outscored the Lakers 27-17 in the fourth.
The Warriors have been one of the higher-scoring teams in their finals run in the last few years, but they may have to rely more on defense this season. Curry led the team averaging 27.3 ppg, but KD and DeMarcus Cousins are gone and Thompson is out with an injury. Russell averaged 21.1 ppg last season with the Brooklyn Nets and he and Curry will form a formidable backcourt duo.
Golden State do not have much size inside and Cauley-Stein is injured. That may be an issue on the season, but in this game not so much as the Clippers are not a team that dominates in the paint.
Last season the Warriors took two of three games from the LA Clippers.
Los Angeles Clippers to win – -114.94 at Nags.bet
The trends above really don’t tell much since both these teams have changed a lot since last season. The Clippers are without George, but Leonard will lead them and, just like the first game, the bench will come on strong. LA will get the win in the City by the Bay, handing the Warriors their first loss in their new house.
