Liverpool vs Tottenham betting tips, odds and predictions

Premier League odds and tips

Liverpool will look to rediscover their winning touch when they play host to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday afternoon in the English Premier League.

The encounter could witness the reopening of old wounds, and the inflicting of new ones, as it will be the first time that these two sides have locked horns since the Reds defeated Spurs in the 2019 UEFA Champions League final back in June.

Despite dropping EPL points for the first time this season in last Sunday’s 1-1 draw away to Manchester United, Liverpool returned to winning ways on the European front with a 4-1 drubbing of Genk on Wednesday night.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who missed a huge portion of last season with a knee injury, scored a first-half brace to put Liverpool ahead in Belgium, with Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah completing the rout with a goal apiece after the interval.

The only blip in their performance was that the defending champions couldn’t maintain a clean sheet, as Genk got their consolation goal through Stephen Odey just moments after Salah had netted the fourth for the visitors.

Tottenham had a similarly resplendent European outing, as they edged out Red Star Belgrade 5-0 in their midweek encounter.

Harry Kane opened the goalscoring account of the night with a fine header inside 10 minutes, before Son Heung-Min added two first-half goals to highlight their dominance.

Erik Lamela scored the fourth 12 minutes into the second half before Kane added his second of the night to wrap up an imposing performance at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

It was an encouraging result for Spurs, who needed something to smile about after their 3-0 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion and their disappointing 1-1 draw with bottom-placed Watford.

Liverpool team news

Trent Alexander-Arnold could miss Sunday’s encounter with Spurs having picked up an illness that saw him sidelined from Liverpool’s midweek trip to Genk.

Andy Robertson will also have to pass a late fitness test after picking up a knock on Wednesday night.

There is a question mark hanging over Joel Matip after he sat out the win in Belgium, while Xherdan Shaqiri remains sidelined with a calf issue.

Tottenham Hotspur team news

Given how most of his players have been out of form, rather than injured, Spurs coach Mauricio Pochettino is expected to retain the same lineup that broke the terrible run of three games without a win.

That mean another game on the outer for Christian Eriksen, who was an unused substitute in the victory over Red Star.

Paulo Gazzaniga will continue in goal as Hugo Lloris recovers from ligament damage courtesy of a dislocated elbow, while Ryan Sessegnon is still some weeks away as he looks to shake a groin problem.

Sadio Mane goalscorer odds and tips

  • Mane to score/ Liverpool win – +130

The attacking tripartite of Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino has already scored 17 goals in all competitions, and some would say they haven’t even hit their stride yet.

Mane, a joint EPL Golden Boot winner with Salah last season, has already found the back of the net seven times for Liverpool, with his last goal coming against Genk on Wednesday night.

Flying and firing alongside Salah, it wouldn’t be a surprise if the Senegal international finds the back of the net against Spurs.

Liverpool vs Tottenham betting predictions

Although Liverpool are way out in front in the title race, their last few weeks have left a lot to be desired.

The Reds are still top on 25 points and have a six-point cushion over second-placed Manchester City, but we have seen only glimpses of their best football this season.

Spurs, meanwhile, are a team in decline and sit seventh on the table, a whopping 13 points behind the league leaders.

Tottenham look a long way off the team they were last year and will struggle to keep up with the Reds at Fortress Anfield.
