According to reports, it seems that Manchester United has reached out to Leicester City regarding the possibility of signing Luke Thomas, a 26-year-old left back, before the transfer window closes.
While Leicester City may not be eager to let go of Thomas, Manchester United is apparently willing to offer a transfer fee in order to secure his services. Since making his breakthrough into Leicester City’s team in 2020 Thomas has become a player for the Premier League club.
With 66 appearances in competitions under his belt, he has shown his ability by scoring two goals and providing five assists. Thomas is known for his versatility as a defender and can excel at the back, left wing back, or even center back positions.
His exceptional pace and energy allow him to contribute effectively both defensively and offensively. Manchester United is currently in need of a defender after Alex Telles joined Sevilla on loan until the end of the soccer season.
Although there have been rumors linking them with Bayern Munichs Alphonso Davies it appears that acquiring the international might prove challenging as Bayern Munich seems hesitant about selling him. Adding Luke Thomas to their squad would undoubtedly strengthen Manchester United’s options.
He is a talented defender who still has plenty of room for growth and development. He would also give Luke Shaw some competition, as United have done over the last few seasons. It’s still uncertain if United will manage to secure Thomas before the transfer window shuts.
However, it’s clear that the Red Devils are in need of a backup, and Thomas would be a solid choice.
