March Madness Preview: Can anyone keep up with Gonzaga?

Gonzaga March Madness betting

The first weekend of March Madness is a sports fan’s paradise. There are so many entertaining games tipping off back to back that it is almost tiring for the viewer. Gonzaga enter this tournament as runaway favorites, and for good reason. They have been dominant. The best way to bet futures for March Madness is to pick one or two favorites, then some longshots. These are the teams we recommend backing.

Gonzaga are the +325 favorites with Bovada and they have been awesome. Led by coach Mark Few, he has assembled a team of studs. They have likely first overall pick Chet Holmgren and two other elite players in Andrew Nembhard and Drew Timme. They definitely have the talent to finally get over the hump and win the tournament. At these odds, they don’t hold the best value, but they are the best team and still worth a bet.

Another favorite that is worth betting on is Arizona at +675. The Wildcats have gone an impressive 31-3 this season and have a deep team capable of beating everyone. They have an All-American in Bennedict Mathurin who will establish himself as one of the best players in college basketball. The success of Arizona’s tournament will most likely come down to the health of their star point guard, Kerr Kriisa. He is one of the most important players in college basketball and he is questionable for the start of the tourney. While they may not need him in the first game, Arizona will have a tough time advancing past anyone without him. If he is healthy, Arizona look a good bet to win March Madness.

The other two no.1 seeds are Baylor and Kansas. They both come from the Big 12 and will expect to make a deep run. Unfortunately for them, they do not stack up to the other elite talents in this tournament and their odds of +1200 do not represent the value Arizona and Gonzaga possess. While they are longer odds, they aren’t as good as the other teams and should not be backed.

One of the longshots worth betting on is UCLA. They have a top-25 offense and top-25 defense but have underachieved this season. They were in the final four last year and return many of their studs. While they haven’t had the best of seasons, they earned a no.4 seed and are in Baylor’s region. If they end up playing Baylor, they have the pieces to win that game and go on a run. Led by Johnny Juzang and Jaime Jacquez, the Bruins are +2800 to win it all. They have proven they have the talent to make a run and are one of the best bets on the board.

The last team worth placing a future on is quite a longshot. The Texas Longhorns are currently +8000 to win the tournament, and that is great value. While it is unlikely they win it all, the Longhorns have a coach in Chris Beard who has gone on March Madness runs before. They also have a great defense and a good offense. If that offense gets hot and matches the play of the defense, the Longhorns can string together a couple of wins and give backers a good opportunity to hedge their bets.

So there it is, two favorites and two longshots. While it is impossible to predict what happens in March Madness, these teams are set up to succeed and make great bets at their current prices. It will be a month of chaos, so sit back and enjoy it all.
