Thika United are set to host Mathare United on the closing day of Match Day 5 in the Kenyan Premier League.

Mathare had an embattled campaign last year and could only survive the relegation scare on the final day of the season after salvaging a 2-2 draw with Posta Rangers to finish 13th on the standings.

Whereas a slim 1-0 win over Bandari on the closing day of the season seemed to have rescued Thika United from the drop, the Mount Kenya side still had to win a two-legged playoff against Ushuru FC in order to retain their place in the top division.

Thika have however run out of luck just as much as they have run out of lives, as the Milkmen are once again embroiled in the relegation catfight, seemingly sleepwalking into the National Super League.

Mathare United remain unbeaten after four outings in the KPL while Thika, sixteenth on the table, are still chasing for their first win having lost twice and drawn their other two matches.

Kimanzi’s charges lost a midweek friendly with the Kenya U-20s by a solitary goal, but the result won’t have a ripple effect on the journeyman’s start to the season, as it was more of a performance assessment of his second string side.
