The Meadowlands Racetrack in New Jersey has changed its starting date to take sports bets from punters.
Previously, the track stated that it would offer sports-betting services to patrons starting on July 15th. However, that date has been moved forward by one day to July 14th.
The change means that sports fans will have plenty of time to get bets in for the 2018 World Cup final. That contest may yet feature the English squad as Harry Kane’s team managed to defeat Colombia on Tuesday.
Furthermore, the change will give an extra day for tennis fans to get bets in on the men’s singles final from Wimbledon. It would certainly stir some interest in the USA if an American male made an unlikely push to the final.
But the change in date might be more relevant to American sports bettors who want to gamble on the women’s final. The championship for women’s singles is scheduled for July 14th and an early riser could get a bet in if the Meadowlands was keen to offer a line.
Unlike the men’s final, it would not be shocking to see an American in the women’s championship match. Serena Williams is now the odds-on favorite to win the title (+300 with Bovada) following the first-round loss of Petra Kvitova. Other Americans in the mix for the women’s final are Madison Keys and Venus Williams.
In offering sports betting, the Meadowlands has joined forces with Betfair US. The venue does promise to be a popular one for sports betting, especially since the nearby state of New York is dragging its heels on legalising sports betting. With the Meadowlands Racetrack a short drive from The Bronx and Manhattan, plenty of residents in the state of New York will be able to support the Racetrack.
