MLB Saturday betting picks & best odds – July 30, 2022

There are plenty of mismatches in Major League Baseball (MLB) on Saturday, with Clayton Kershaw and the Dodgers in Colorado, Nestor Cortes and the Yankees hosting Kansas City, and the Phillies visiting Pittsburgh. Here are the best bets on MLB games scheduled for Saturday, July 30th starting at 1:10 p.m. Eastern.

Los Angeles Dodgers @ Colorado Rockies

The Dodgers are just 8-6 in Clayton Kershaw’s starts this season, despite him being 7-2 with a 2.49 ERA and 0.95 WHIP. One of those losses was in Kershaw’s worst start of the season, which came in Colorado. He allowed six earned runs in four innings pitched. He allowed four earned runs in 4.1 innings against San Francisco most recently, and Colorado’s .864 OPS against him over 141 at-bats does not bode well for him or the Dodgers in the first five innings.

Also consider placing a player prop bet on Charlie Blackmon to have multiple hits and total bases (maybe even three). He’s 21-for-69 with a double, two triples, and four homers against Kershaw. Kris Bryant is also four-of-16 with a double and two dingers, so consider placing a bet on him to have multiple total bases.

Countering for Colorado will be Kyle Freeland, who is 5-7 with a 4.64 ERA and 1.36 WHIP this season. He’s got a 5.66 ERA at home, however, as most Rockies starters are. He’s 1-1 against the Dodgers this season, allowing seven total runs over 11.2 innings pitched (he won at home). The Dodgers have struggled mightily with Freeland. In 216 at-bats, they have 55 hits with 22 going for extra bases. That’s a .196 batting average and .582 OPS against. Take Colorado in the first five innings.

Colorado has the second-worst bullpen ERA in baseball, though (4.66), and the Rockies’ reliever WHIP is fifth-worst (1.39). Take the Dodgers on the moneyline, as they’ll likely get three-plus innings against those relievers with their top-five bullpen countering. Consider parlaying those bets with…

Kansas City Royals @ New York Yankees

Yankees All-Star Nestor Cortes is 8-3, and the Yankees are 15-5 in games he starts. In his lone start against the Royals this season, Cortes allowed one earned run over five innings pitched and got the win. Much of the damage the Royals have managed against him has come from Whit Merrifield, who has two of his team’s three doubles against him and another hit in nine at-bats. Consider placing a player prop bet on him to have multiple total bases on Saturday.

Zack Greinke is expected to start for Kansas City, and he’s actually held the Yankees in check. The Bronx Bombers have 55 hits in 199 at-bats, but just 20 have gone for extra bases, and 16 of them have been doubles. That adds up to just a .666 OPS against despite a .242 batting average against. Anthony Rizzo is ultra-comfortable against him, going six-of-14 with a double, so he might have multiple hits. DJ LeMahieu has five of the 16 doubles and 13 other hits in 61 at-bats. Matt Carpenter is probably your best bet in this game, though. He’s 10-for-31 with two doubles and two dingers. Greinke shut out the Angels for five innings in his last start, so you might consider taking Kansas City in the first five innings on Saturday. Parlayed with Colorado, that could pay big money. Philadelphia Phillies @ Pittsburgh Pirates

Ranger Suarez will go for Philly, and the Pirates are mostly unfamiliar with him. In 14 at-bats they have just one hit. The Phillies are plenty familiar and comfortable with Pittsburgh starter Mitch Keller, though. In 43 at-bats, the Phillies have 18 hits, with six doubles, two triples, and two homers. That’s a 1.231 OPS and .438 batting average against. Take Philadelphia in the first five innings and on the moneyline. Parlaying Pittsburgh, New York, and Los Angeles on the moneyline pays +220.
