College Football Week 5 betting tips:
All games in parlay are on Saturday, September 29
West Virginia vs. Texas Tech Over at -111.11
Texas to cover -8.5 at -111.11
BYU to cover at +17.5 at -111.11
Combined parlay total at +470 with 888 Sportsbook
Leg 1 – West Virginia vs. Texas Tech
Texas Tech is in the top 25 after winning three games in a row after losing their first game of the season. They took out a ranked Oklahoma State team in their last game where they racked up 621 yards and shut out the Cowboys in the 2nd half. Tech ranks 5th in the nation in points per game and their top-ranked passing offense is led by Alan Bowman, who already has 1,557 yards and 10 TD in four games.
West Virginia has won all three of their games, but they have not played a ranked team and have not been tested. That will likely change in this Big 12 encounter. The Mountaineers rank 20th in the nation in points per game and they have a Heisman candidate under center in quarterback Will Grier.
The total for this game is set at a high 77 points and while the Mountaineers have the nation’s top ranked defense the Red Raiders only rank tied for 83rd in opponents’ points allowed.
Last season there was 81 points when these teams met and in four of the last five home games for Tech the total has gone Over. Take the Over in this one, as the game will be a barnburner.
Tip: Over 77 points at -111.11 with Bovada
Leg 2 -Texas vs. Kansas State
Texas is the 18th ranked team in the nation and they have won three in a row after being upset in their season opener facing Maryland. They have a balanced team that has scored at least 28 points in every game this season.
Kansas State is sitting at 2-2 and they are coming off a bad 35-6 loss to a ranked West Virginia team. They are at home, but in the two games facing ranked teams this season they have been outscored 66-16. They gave up five TD in their last game and 464 total yards.
The Longhorns are rolling and even though they are on the road in this game, where they are 0-1 on the season, they have beaten two top 25 teams in their last two games. They will get the win in this game and cover the spread sending Kansas State to under .500 on the season. KSU has covered in their last five home games facing Texas, but that trend will not continue.
Tip: Texas to cover (-10) at -111.11 with Bovada
Leg 3 – BYU vs. Washington
BYU is the 20th ranked team in the nation and they beat a top 10 Wisconsin team already and that game was on the road. They are coming off a blowout win over McNeese State and while they don’t have a dynamic offense they have a solid defense.
Since losing their opening game of the season to a ranked Auburn team Washington has won three straight, but none of the wins came facing a top 25 teams. The Huskies have a balanced offensive attack and they rank tie for 4th in the nation only giving up an average of 12.8 ppg.
These teams have not met since the 2013 season. BUY has covered the spread in their last five games while Washington has failed to cover in four of their last five home games. The Cougars will play solid defense in this game and keep it a low scoring affair and while I do not think they will pull off another stunner like they did against Wisconsin they will cover the spread getting 17.5 points.
Tip: BYU to cover (+17.5) at -111.11 with Bovada
