WHEN Roger Federer is finished calling Lleyton Hewitt a Kiwi, he might want to focus on his first round match against Damir Dzumhur on Wednesday morning.
Federer took to Twitter last night and made a gaffe that delighted all New Zealanders. Federer put (NZ) beside Hewitt’s name, causing plenty of confusion.
Federer quickly amended his error, but for one night, Lleyton Hewitt crossed the ditch and became a New Zealand folk hero.
Wimbledon’s number two seed Roger Federer will put down his phone when he takes to the court against world number 87 Damir Dzumhur – a political science student from Bosnia.
Dzumhur is the first Bosnian to make the main round at Wimbledon, so the 23-year-old has already made national history.
Punt on the Fed at Wimbledon.
Federer vs. Dzumhur match stats and odds
The odds are as expected with Federer dominating the market, but punters can still bet on the many exotic options available.
Federer – $1.004
Dzumhur – $41
There isn’t much value with the head-to-head option, unless you’re thinking Dzumhur can upset the former champion, but that’s very unlikely.
Federer defeated Dzumhur in straight sets at the 2015 French Open, after the Bosnian made the third round after upsetting both Mikhail Youzhny and Marcos Baghdatis.
Federer is another step up in class and the Swiss master is heavily favoured to win in straight sets. The 33-year-old is paying $1.10 at Sportsbet.com.au to win 3-0, but we favour the 3-1 option at a value price of $7.50.
The game handicap market is where most punters will be heading towards for this match. The line is currently sitting at 10.5, with the +10.5 for Dzumhur edging favouritism at $1.72.
Dzumhur has four grand slam appearances for four wins which bodes well, but facing the all-time Wimbledon title winner will be another test altogether.
Sportsbet.com.au are offering additional handicap markets on either side of the 10.5 line.
Dzumhur +10.5 – $1.72 at Sportsbet.com.au
Dzumhur +12.5 – $1.22
Dzumhur +8.5 – $3.50
Dzumhur +14.5 – $1.03
Federer -10.5 – $2
Federer -12.5 – $3.75
Federer -8.5 – $1.25
Federer -14.5 – $10
We’re predicting Federer to win in either three or four sets. If it goes three, we think Dzumhur can at least win some service games.
This leads us to a 6-3 6-2 6-3 type score line which will cash the +10.5. We can’t see Federer winning by a bigger margin than this and the +10.5 line might move to +9.5.
Other betting options include ‘total match games’ where the Over 25.5 has been backed heavily into $1.61. Our projected score line sits at 26 games and many punters are thinking along the same lines.
The correct score in the 1st set market is intriguing and it provides good value foe exotic players.
The current favourite is for Federer to win by 6-3 ($4.33 at CrownBet.com.au) and we think that score will be around the mark.
Because the odds are so generous, punters can also take a couple of the options and still make a profit. We suggest taking 6-3, 6-2 ($4.50) and 6-4 at $4.50 to ensure a profit is made if Federer gets the job done.
Wimbledon multi-bet of the day
We’ve included four other games to add to your Federer multi-bet. Don’t worry about the short odds available in Round 1, they all add up and multi-bets are a good way to get value out of these games:
Sam Querrey at $1.24 vs. Igor Sijsling
Feliciano Lopez at $1.11 vs. Steve Darcis
Radek Stepanek at $1.59 vs. Aljaz Bedene
Tomas Berdych at $1.12 vs. Jeremy Chardy
Dzumhur +10.5 at $1.72 vs. Roger Federer
$10 Multi-bet = $42.15 at WilliamHill.com.au
