Kenya vs ComorosSaturday, March 24 – 12:00am Local time – Stade de Marrakech, Marrakesh, Morocco

Every cloud has a silver lining but if you’re a supporter of the Kenya national football team, then every silver lining has a cloud.

From the days of Henri Michel to Adel Amrouche, Bobby Williamson to Paul Put, you really don’t have to search too far for striking examples of just how football in Kenya has been ridiculed with controversies over the last decade.

None could however be compared to Paul Put’s resignation as manager after just three months on the job.

What’s more, the recurring theme had plenty to do with ineptitude from the Football Kenya Federation, and little to do with the quality of both the players and coaching staff.

It was under the tutelage of the Belgian veteran that Kenya won the 2017 Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup, with the potent promise of ushering in a new era in the hunt for major honors.

Put’s surprise resignation has nonetheless left plenty to be desired in the country’s football governing body, more so with the two-legged crunch tie with Ghana scheduled in September, for a place in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

It is however not all doom and gloom for the Harambee Stars, as the friendlies lined up could help gauge the strength of the team and, in the main, create a tight knit squad. The team took part in a training session on Tuesday under the watchful eye of interim coach Stanley Okumbi, in preparation of two friendly fixtures against Comoros and the Central African Republic to be held at the same venue in the Moroccan City of Marrakesh.

The contingent of foreign-based players led by Victor Wanyama arrived on Tuesday, as forward Michael Olunga linked up with his team mates the following day.
